Last week saw the captures of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Jan Vertonghen (finally) as AVB stamped his mark on Spurs with two new signings although if we are honest it was probably more down to Sherwood and Levy for those deals.

We have slowly started to see some of our fringe players finally pack their bags and move on, Corluka, Pav and Kranjcar the latest and there are still more required to depart (yes Jenas we are all looking at you son). Maybe the idea this summer is to trim the squad in size but to up the quality levels. If we have less average players sitting on the books picking up £60k a week then we can have more quality players and pay them what they deserve which looks like the plan. Bale is now on a new lucrative pay deal and Adebayor is set to come in and smash the wage record again.

If we can shift some fringe players like Gio, Jenas, Bentley, Pienaar and maybe one or two older players like Friedel and Gallas then you can expect a host of new signings, it’s all sports and supplements if you ask me, lest we forget that Luka Modric and VDV could also be summer departures (if you can call this a summer).

You can be the judge of who goes and who you’d keep but then how many signings would we need and more importantly who would we need to be able to compete next season? You can guess that if Modric goes that the importance of that role has been recognized and Levy & AVB will try to replace like for like in the form of Moutinho. If you don’t have the time to go through it all then as things stand now with the current squad how many players would we need to add to be able to compete for a top 3 or 4 place or even higher again?
