It had to happen. In the middle of a winter that will define our season with matches against teams that  include  United, City, Liverpool. In the middle of a rebuilding process after a 6-0 drubbing threatened to derail our entire year. In the middle of the transfer madness and wild speculation where every striker in the world is our potential target.

We drew Arsenal in the FA cup.

Now it is fair to say that I have a deep rooted hatred for everything Arsenal. The rivalry between our clubs goes back a long way but it is only in the recent history that we have started to achieve parity. The chance to square off against them in the FA cup, even if it is only the third round, is mouth watering.

Not for a second was I grim about a tough draw this early in the cup. I in fact jumped in joy at the prospect of bloodying the noses of our neighbors. We go into the match as underdogs and it will be Arsenal who have more to lose from the game than us. They are currently seeing a return to form of players that were written off by others as well as their own fans and are currently at the top of the league. Even thought the match is still far away and we have other big teams to look forward too. Everything from this moment on will be in relation to the Arsenal match. Every injury scare, form of key players, potential acquisitions and even departures. Everything.

It is time to plan the invasion. It really does not get bigger than this.

  2. I only wish it was at Wembley – in the final !!! COYMS!!!

  3. Everything? Lol that’s why spurs will always be shit

  4. It doesn’t get any bigger than this?!?!…well, maybe for you spud muppets, but we’re part of Europes elite, your sorry little joke of a club are running ten years behind us…keep playing catchup…Bwahahahahaaaa!!!

    Up the Arsenal

  5. Unzip me and nibble my throbbing lasagne :o)

  6. FFS, i cant believe we drew the Arse in the cup, we’re going to get humiliated all over again. COYS

  7. As a Spurs fan I find this article embarrassing, It’s as bad as that cringe worthy Spurs song those two plebs made stating that ‘fourth place is our everything’. It gets a hell of a lot bigger than a third round FA Cup tie, and don’t start crowing about ‘parity’ when Arsenal are killing us in the league.

  8. You should told all those muppets celebrating down on Holloway Road in september as if you all won the league !!! Get over yourself – we ain’t got far to catch up with all those trophies you won lately – have we now ?! What a DH!!

  9. Stupid article, honestly remove this garbage, u make Spurs fans look ridiculous.

  10. A bit OTT Rob – it will dominate our thoughts in January – as will theirs!!! 8 points in December is hardly a killing btw…

  11. Hmmmmm is that why you all rush off so early at the end of games,Thierry from the halfway ?!!!

  12. God there are some doom and gloom Yids in here.

It is a mouthwatering tie. I for one can’t wait, win or lose will set up the rest of the season for both teams

If Arsenal lose – there goes their usual annual slump and an empty trophy at the end of it!

    COYS

  13. Thoroughly looking forward to it! Now we are beginning to play some decent football as well as the Goons then the game should be a great for the neutral. I am not going to say we will beat them just for the sake of bravado but we are going to be harder to beat this time and there will be goals galore I think. May the best team win. COYS

  14. We have a squad which needs time to gel, whereas Arsenal are well in their stride. With their traditional strong finish compared to our habitual end of season slump, 8 points is a lot.

The match is an exciting one to look forward to, but that’s it. Stating that ‘everything from this moment on will be in relation to the Arsenal match’ is what is over the top. I’d take a total hammering in that match in exchange for a guaranteed CL place, that is what is important.

Gushing about a third round FA Cup tie when Arsenal are 2/1 to win the title and contemplating the latter stages of the Champions League for the umpteenth year on the trot leaves us open to ridicule. The article screams ‘small club mentality’.

  15. Inderstood Rob !! eight points not a big advantage – expecting Spurs to gel BIG time !!!

  16. This kind of emphasises my point. The article was about the FA Cup game, but we are discussing 8 points in the league. The cup match is an exciting prospect, but not of major importance.

  17. I take it as a non negotiable us qualifying for the Champions League this year … nothing less than 3rd… Cup runs are welcome as well though with those we will have a motivated squad…

  18. I believe we can make fourth, but it will be tough. I think Liverpool could hit a rough patch and that we can outpace United and Everton, but Man City, Arsenal and Chelsea will be top three in that order. For what seems like the hundredth transfer window in a row I think it all hangs on us bringing in the right striker.

  19. I agree rob however I would take winning the FA cup over Champions league qualification this year at least. Trophies equal bragging points, afterall what are Gooners’ biggest gripe about their club?

  20. I think CL is imperative above anything else – CL gives much more clout than cup wins !!

  21. I guarantee you the majority of Arsenal fans would vote to keep their CL qualification run going over winning the FA Cup. Their gripe is that they can’t do both. My overriding aim is the future growth and progression of the club, and for that CL qualification is imperative. Offering CL football goes a long way to persuading a world class player to join our club, Europa League and the fact we won a domestic cup in the previous season does not.

  22. HIghgatespur, you beat me to it 🙂

  23. Yeah, obviously I get that the CL provides clubs with the stature and finances to attract the best players to ultimately compete for the biggest of honours, the Title and CL. I just think that clubs and fans can get so focused in ‘playing the long ball game’ that they forget what football is all about, winning things.

  24. I felt exactly the same. I’m delighted at the opportunity to set the record straight and I’m confident we will.
