Spurs are set to test Arsenal in January with a bid for out of favour German Interntaional Lukas Podolski.

Daniel Levy is willing to sanction a bid of £10m for the World Cup Winner.

Although featuring at the weekend the German often finds himself on the bench and it is thought he would be happy to stay in London

Well one thing is for sure, Samuel Eto’o will never be welcome at White Hart Lane after his latest comment.

Eto’o has been linked with a move to Spurs following our hunt for a new striker but the Cameroon international has ruled any possiblity of that out by saying:

“I hope the English fans will forgive me, but Tottenham are a club in mid-table and I need more”.

A mid-table club that made his team Inter Milan look like a bunch of school kids when they came to White Hart Lane last season and could only beat us by one goal at their gaff when we had our keeper sent off after 8mins.

However if that’s how Eto’o feels then let him, wouldn’t want the money grabber anyway, Chelsea can have him.

Royston Drenthe could be on the verge of his dream move to the Premier League by following international temamate Rafael Van Der Vaart into White Hart Lane.

Has Harry Stolen A March On Wenger?

If the whispers are to be believed, Drenthe could be set to reject the advances of Gunners boss Arsene Wenger in order to secure a move to Harry Redknapp’s title hopefulls.

Currently on loan to Hercules CF from Spanish giants Real Madrid, Drenthe would welcome the chance of a permanent move away from the Bernabeau after failing to cement a regular place in Jose Mourinho’s championship chasing side.

The young Dutchman, who already has more than 20 international appearances ranging from U21 level up to his first full cap in the senior side , is said to be keen on linking up with international teammate Rafael Van Der Vaart at the Lane despite many believing that the Emirates would be his eventual destination.

Drenthe 23, who has also attracted the attention of both Liverpool and numerous Spanish clubs in recent months, would appear to have all the attributes required to succeed in the Premier League. Whilst being one of the quickest players in any of the major european leagues, he shows good strength on the ball and an eye for an early pass ….. a good skill to possess given the pace of the game in the English top flight.

Whether the pacey wideman is in fact on Harry Redknapp’s radar ….. only time will tell, but with Aaron Lennon’s hit and miss form of recent months and David Bentley’s imminent exit from the Lane, Drenthe would appear (on paper at least) to fit the bill for Harry’s side.

The big news is that Rafael Van Der Vaart is passed fit to start for Harry Redknapp’s Spurs. Jermain Defoe retains his spot on the bench as he continues his comeback from injury.

As expected, Steven Gerrard is missing from the Liverpool squad through injury leaving the Anfield club relying heavily once again on the craft of Fernando Torres.

According to Dinamo Zagreb vice-president Zdravko Mamic, Harry Redknapp’s Tottenham are amongst a host of top european clubs said to have shown an interest in highly rated Croatian midfield starlet Sime Vrsaljko.

The New Modric?

Vrsaljko ,18, who is poised for his full international bow against Malta, has already been hailed by some in his homeland as ‘the new Luka Modric’ ….. and with the Zagreb side openly admitting that they can only survive by pushing through deals for their top players, the midfield prospect could be on his way to any of a number of prestige european sides with N17 a mooted destination.

Addressing the press Mamic admitted :

“I will tell you something, which is really exclusive, everybody wants Sime Vrsaljko.

“I can tell you, that he is followed by Manchester United and also City, Everton, Arsenal, Tottenham, by everybody!

“And I will not even start to name all the

clubs from Germany, France and Italy which also wants him.

“Our wish is not to sell anybody from our team, but the truth is, that we can only survive if we sell our best players.

Tom Huddlestone refused to be denied by the assistants flag and his 25 yard effort – with as many minutes remaining – was enough to give Harry Redknapps men all 3 points at Craven Cottage ….. and sentence Mark Hughes’ side to their first defeat of the season.

With the visitors having the better of the opening exchanges it was against the run of play that Diomansy Kamara put the cottagers in front on the half hour mark. Dempsey’s trickery beating both King and Gallas before the US international drove a low ball across the box for the Senegalese to tap into an empty net.

Parity was restored less than a minute after the restart though, Van der Vaart’s sublime first touch in the box, killing a high ball in and spinning with his back to goal before dinking a superb chip over Schwarzer that hit the bar, Pavlyuchenko on hand to tap in.

With the scores level at the mid way point, Aaron Lennon was brought on to replace the Brazilian Sandro, a move that paid dividends as the game progressed, the England wingers pace proving troublesome on a number of occasions throughout the second half.

After decent chances for both Pavlyuchenko (from a Lennon cross) and Lennon himself, Tom Huddlestone ensured Spurs made the short trip home with all 3 points in the bag.

Gareth Bale played a corner out to the England midfielder in a central position – around 25 yards out – who then drilled a low effort through a crowd of players into the bottom left corner of Mark Schwarzers net. A flag from the referees assistant initially threatened to cancel out the strike, William Gallas adjudged to be in an offside position and to have made contact with the ball on  it’s way through. However after appeals from Huddlestone himself, the referee was convinced to overrule his assistant and award what turned out to be the decisive effort!

Fulham pressed in the latter stages, but the Spurs back line held firm – the win moving Harry Redknapps side into joint fourth place on goal difference behind Arsenal.

Tottenham will face European champions Inter Milan and Werder Bremen….

The draw has just been made and Tottenham have been welcomed to the Champions League with a draw that see’s us in a group with the reigning champions Inter Milan of Italy, Werder Bremen of Germany and FC Twente of Holland.

Manchester United face Valencia and Rangers while Arsenal look to have the easiest draw against Shakhtar and Braga. Chelsea should also make easy work of the group stages with a draw that see’s them in a group with Marseille and Spartak Moscow.

September 14 – Werder Bremen v Spurs
September 29 – Spurs v FC Twente
October 20 – Inter Milan v Spurs
November 2 – Spurs v Inter Milan
November 24 – Spurs v Werder Bremen
December 7 – FC Twente v Spurs

It is fair to say we could have had an easier draw but this is what it’s all about now, to be the best you have to beat the best and this is what we have been relishing. There is no more hiding the big boys are coming to the Lane.

All I can say is whatever the outcome of the group stage just go out there and do us proud boys and you will will be icons in our eyes. Lucky Arsenal have an easy group yet again and once again Manchester United are in a group with a Scottish team.

I dream that we can emulate what Leeds done and go on an unexpected run but whatever the outcome I know we just won’t want it to end. No more week nights of planning to watch Eastenders or Corrie, we can plan to watch our Tottenham in the Champions League.

All eyes on group A, between now and Christmas it’s going to be one hell of a roller coaster ride.

Aug 132010

Well ….. it may not be the exciting ‘marquee’ signing we were hoping to see before our debut Champions League season, but at least it’s a start!

According to reports Harry Redknapp has completed a deal to bring in ‘the promise of Honduras football’ in 17 year old striker Anthony Lozano.

Goal Threat ? - Lozano

With three goals in six appearances for his club side CD Olimpia and a stunning return of 11 goals in eight appearances as captain of the U17 Honduran national side, Lozano clearly has an eye for goal. Whether we will ever get to see him in the Lillywhite shirt in a competitive match ….. we’ll have to wait and see!

While the club are yet to confirm reports, they have admitted that the player is at the club on a ten day trial and a number of sources are now claiming that a deal for the prospect is already in place.

If the club do announce the deal as complete, then he would be Harry’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Brazilian midfielder Sandro earlier in the transfer window.
