Jermaine Defoe has returned to full training for Tottenham in a bid to be fit for the match against Arsenal in the first North London derby of the season.

Defoe has been out of action since the start of the season after picking up an injury on England duty. Spurs have missed him up front but the Spurs man isn’t far from a return. Having started light ball work last week he has now taken part in training today.

Welcome Back JD

Defoe desperately wants to be able to take part in the Arsenal game and early reports are that he might get a place on the bench. Defoe is also looking forward to playing in the Champions League with Tottenham.

Some of you won’t like what I am about to say but personally I don’t want him involved on Saturday, at the very most I would give him 15 mins at the end if we need a goal but no more than that. He won’t be the sharp Defoe we all know, he will be slow and rusty and in no way shape or form will he be anywhere near match fitness. I would stick with Pav and only in desperate need of a goal in the last 15 mins should he even contemplate using Defoe. My worry is Spurs players rushing back for the big games and doing their selves more damage in the long-term.

On another note, Michael Dawson is apparently only a couple of weeks from a return and Aaron Lennon could be fit to face the scum on Saturday. Could things finally be looking up?

  1. Nice to hear some good news for a change. I also agree we don’t want to rush players back if they are not ready, I know it is Arsenal but you have to look at the bigger picture.

On another note, I am surprised VDV has gone with Holland for their game tomorrow, he has had that strain recently and as it’s a friendly surely he could of missed it? We don’t want anything to happen to him.

  2. Agree about Defoe . Stick with Pav. Good if The Road Runner’s ready to come back though and be good to see Daws around again.

  3. Just beat Arsenal away and make me happy.

  4. Defoe should not play this week as it is too early. But when he returns it will be exciting watching him with VDV behind him. As to Pav despite last week he is a good finisher and needs good service to get the best out of him. But even with those two Spurs really need another top striker.

  5. Hopes of Dawes & Defoe being added to this squad is a great xmas present for the Team, hope we get a bonus with beating the gunners- we are owed a big four away win??

  6. I agree Defoe shouldn’t be rushed back, I think he will be on the bench and will only be used in the last 20 odd mins if we are on the back foot…

On another note I can’t wait to see Defoe and VDV play together, I can’t help but think its going to be an amazing partnership, I was blown away watching Defoe and Rooney play for england last time round with Rooney sitting behind defoe. Yeah ok, VDV and Rooney don’t compare but he plays in that hole.. Teams fear us with Bale and VDV just wait for Defoes return… I think its going to be a great partnership and the trio are going to rip defenders to bits… Lets sink the arse and wipe those smiles of their smug faces!! COYS!!
