Gareth Bale! The kid scored a hat-trick when in Italy against one of the biggest teams in the world, all this from the left wing which has got me and a few other Spurs fans talking and we have asked the question, if he can do this much damage from the left wing then what would he be like if we gave him a game up front?

Maybe I am well off the mark, maybe he wouldn’t have as much of an impact as a lot of his goals come from beating a man down the wing and creating his own chances. Strikers need natural instinct to get in the right positions in and around the box. Could Gareth do all this?

I don’t know about you guys but I think it’s time Crouchy was used more as an impact sub rather than our main striker, he just isn’t cutting it at the moment. So would it really hurt to give Bale a chance at playing up top with Pav or could he even manage a game up top on his own with Van der Vaart just behind him? If not then maybe Harry should consider giving Van der Vaart a chance up top as a main striker until Defoe returns.

I really would like to see Bale given a chance, I wouldn’t like to see him take this role up full time because left wingers are hard to find. Wales sort of give him a free role sometimes and even play him on the right but it doesn’t seem to bother Bale where he plays he always seems to do a job. I think we have established by now that although he could be a good left back he is far better doing forward, anyone who can score a hat-trick against Inter Milan should not be playing at the back in my book.

So what do you think, could Bale possibly be the man to save our striker crisis and if you think it’s worth a shot how would your team layout look. Mine would be something like this

—————Gomes—————-

Hutton–King– Dawson– BAE

Lennon–Hudd–Modric–Kranjcar

  1. Your absolutely mad!

  2. I don’t think we should be thinking in that direction at all.
We need a striker who can score 20-30 goals a season, and no matter how good that striker is, he’ll need some class players feeding him, and one of those should be Bale. We have REAL quality in almost every position. If there had not been ANY injuries, we would have a starting 11 with plenty of subs, to challenge for every trofies…
Imagine (a completely healthy) lineup like this:

    ………………………GOMES……………………….
    CHORLUCA…KING…WOODGATE…….BALE

……….HUDDLESTONE…SANDRO…………… (i know, Sandro, but give him half a season, STAR)

    LENNON…….VAN DER VAART……MODRIC

    ……………………DEFOE………………………….

my only conserne is our defence…we should invest in a right back. and one really good centerback that doesn’t get injured 🙂 and one WORLDCLASS striker..cause Defoe is not enough..
Lisandro Lopez, Diego Forlan or Luis Suares would do for me
    COYS :_)

  3. no chance. He’s perfectly suited for the left wing, and it was a real waste seeing him on the right against everton.

  4. I’ve seen Bale play up front for Wales too but come on. Have we really got such little choice we need him there?

  5. Coxie you stole my thunder But your such a nice man its okay anyway you have put it in English and you no Davspurs like Bale would be learning to one day be a great Blogger like you and the others. Back to bale has a striker you are spot on Strikers come in different styles Poachers speed merchants and creators. Bale has two two of the skills to be a terrific striker and i said this yesterday i hope Harry reads your Blog and considers this set up.Gomes Hutton —– Kaboul——- Dawson——- Gallas ——-Lennon———Huddlestone——-Sandro—————Modric————–V der Vaart————Bale——–Defoe .This would be a 4-3-3 formation Just think of the speed upfront is frightening and this way Bale would have Help to Learn his trade with Defoe and Van and we could switch any formation with Bale has striker . Coxie this needs to be the start of a Bale for striker campaign a little ripple can become a wave of excitement if we succeed in Harry trying this system Coys

  6. sorry lads 4=4=3 is what i meant 4-3-3 is our Inter Milan formation HA

  7. Ha 443 so Gomes is dropped? Bale would be a waste up front.

  8. Unless you play a 4-3-3, it will never happen in anyone’s lifetime.
I would love Kranjcar to play again, but putting Bale upfront will have the same effect as when Capello placed Gerrard on the wing in the World Cup – Bale will be terrible there.

You’d have to play it like this for Bale to be in a striker’s role while maintaining his natural position:

    ………………………..Gomes……………………….

    Charlie………King……………..Gallas………BAE

    Lennon………………..THud………………Kranjcar

    Modric………………….Pav………………….BALE

Here’s a striking gem for you – Anthony Lozano!

  9. ……………………..Gomes…………………………
    Kaboul…………King…………Woodgate……………Gallas

    …………………… …..Sandro…………………………………..

    Lennon………..Modric………………Krancjar………….Bale

    …………DEFOE………VDV…………………..

  10. Jerard go back to school mate

  11. Don’t think you are allowed 12 on a pitch Jerard!

  12. Harry tried bale out on the right and he wasn’t as effective. I guess your on the lines of bale as a striker due to Henry? He was a winger turned striker. So is Gio dos santos but he just doesn’t do it in the prem. Bale has enormous talent. He is a very skillful player, we haven’t seen all of his box of tricks just yet. I’d like to see him rove around up front but with another striker. I think spurs are short of a striker (obika/kane?) even when defoe comes back. though i think we’ll see the best from defoe when he plays with VDV. So at this stage I could see bale playing a free role off a striker but not as a striker, lennoncould do the same. but then we have VDV who can do this and score goals. I’ve never been a fan of crouch. he is very very limited as a striker but does have his uses so yep super sub him.

  13. Yeh Jerard thats 12 players you tool!

  14. DAVSPURS – 4=4=3 Who is going to play in GOAL?, or is Gomes a goalie/CB?

  15. Fuckin Hell played ten and Gerrard played twelve and let me tellyou doubters I played striker in midfield and at the back and even in Goals You tell me what is the different to Defoe he beats his man and firesa shotin the net past the post or over the bar Bale can beat any defender and shoot is three goals would have looked good in any strikers book his goal against stoke was 9 out of ten in difficulty is Goal against Chelsea and Arsenal was Striker esc and Huddlestone could provide the passes over the defence or through the defence and Lennons crosses. Mods Defoe and Van in a front three would work i will bet my Arse on it and iam a virgin bum area of course.Teams are doubling up on him like Everton did and a lot of times he and Lennon get to the byline and no one his there and the ball ends up with the defence. He beat Maicon and central defenders to score some of his goals and just think the passes Van can give him behind defences. Rooney started off in midfield and Anelka his no different in his skill levels than Bale i said he was the new Giggs and could play in midfield and got laughed at now who is laughing it can work. and Wales are allowing him to roam more and more.. Coys

  16. LOL

  17. Being the attack minded left-winger he is, it wouldn’t be stretch to play him as a left forward a la Varela at Porto or Lavezzi at Napoli. And Greg, there was virtually nothing left in the tank when he switched flanks last Sat.

    • DAVspurs is a legend and if he thinks spurs can win without a keeper who are we to doubt him.

  18. ……………….gomes……………….
kaboul……king….dawson……bae (youre all retarded for dropping him)
    …………hudd…….modders………
    lennon……..vdv……………….bale
    ………………defoe…………………

easily without a doubt our best XI for a 451

  19. Hmmm yeah nice formation Jerard , 1 problem though……………… Bale up front??? What a retard suggestion

  20. Lets play BAE right wing Gomes as a holding midfeilder and Crouch in goal cuz e is big and e might save lots of shots from goin in da net daahhhh!!!!!

  21. Sure he could play CF. But what you are saying is that we have a beanpole CF who is a fine player but doesn’t fit into the fast, passing movement VdV, Modric can provide – without resource to crossing the ball in the air in hopes someone will head it into the net. So when we get Defoe back we’ll have the fluid attack we need, IMHO. Meanwhile, why not put VdV at CF, with Lennon, Modric and Bale all in attacking roles, supported by Hudd and Sandro/Jenas and whoever the hell is fit enough for our back four.

  22. Lol, I think Jerard has been at whatever Davs been at.

DaveYid has it spot on (apart from the lack of VdV). Stick Bale in a similar position to how Malouda plays for Chelsea. Would swop Modric and Krankie from DaveYids line up thoug as Jimmy is the better finisher

  23. I agree with Jerard… we should defenetly go for a 4-1-4-2. I think that would give us a huge advantage 🙂

  24. It’s an interesting article but I can’t see him up front. I reckon he could do a job for us in the center on the park, but really his best position is on the left of a 4-4-2.
    This would possibly work….

  25. dave spurs..if it was that simple we’d have won the league by now! how long does it take a player to become a striker? why move bale from the wing where he’s scoring goals and has a lot of room to put him upfront where he’ll play with his back to goal and get lumps kicked out of him? most top striker score heaps of goals by being in the right place a the right time. darren bent is the type of player you want bale to become? the question remains why move bale.. who terrifies defences and scores from the wing..into a central position? who’s going to do what bale can do out wide..no one! malouda is someone i’d urge you to keep an eye on. he’s changing from a good winger into a fantastic one who scores goals. ronaldo is a world class winger who scores goals. the common factor with these players is they all come from a wide position..yet can score infront of goal. turn em around and it all changes..you can’t run out wide and score. freedom and room is what they need to get going..take it away..? harry has given bale the freedom to roam a little. when he’s had a bit more experience we’ll have our own Ronaldo..all we need is a Rooney (of old) to strike up a partnership. coys

  26. ha ha lol @ Jarard 12 men ha ha

  27. lets play 2 keepers too lol

  28. Good Evening.

Firstly, Jerard you actually have 12 players in your starting line up. SO might want to re-consider Krancjar playing RCM.

Also, Bale can play LW but theres no point sticking him upfront when we have Pav- a perfectly good goalscorer when played properly. Shame him and VDV havent kicked off a instinctive relationship. But give them a chance and you never know. Lets hope Harry tries Pav against the Manc’s on the weekend.

Quick question whats out best CB pairing? I think Gallas and Kaboul could work some magic given the time.

One last comment, In King we love but I think its time he lays down his throne.

    @youGoPublic. FOLLOW US

  29. i think we have the illusive striker under our noses, harry kane, he’s 18 now and should be given a chance, he bangs them in at both club and international level, and lets be totaly frank, he can’t do any worse than crouchy, ideal starting eleven for me…………….gomes
    kaboul……dawson………king………bae
    sandro
    lennon……huddlestone…..modric…….bale

oh, on a different note for those of us lucky enough to have tickets for the inter game, lets make it the most intimidating crowd in recent years, it made all the difference last season when we spanked chelsea,COYS

  30. good blog mate and lots of football food for thought….its not totally illogical to mould bale into a striker. lots of players missed out on great careers because they didnt get a chance to try another position on the field or the manager had no vision and could never conceive of playing a player out of so called “position”. we all remember last time we played man u(?) and zokora(?) played right back and that was a realy bad decision.

i always thought emile heskey would have made a decent centerback.

  31. why when he scores from the wing

  32. Jerard, All things being equal, my tops spurs team MUST have Hudd and Dawson in it.

  33. I saw vidic dominate kenwyne jones last week. if spurs think they can just hit long balls to crouch tomorrow, we’ll lose. i just hope we stick to short and sharp pass and move with all the team giving a top performance……and we haven’t got howard webb for a change!
lennon could do that job in this case and bring in krancjar or dos santos??

crouch will most probably start though.

  34. Good morning Yids.

New to Triffic Tottenham, so please be gentle 😉

Wish not to upset anyone with my opinion, but those of you with weak stomachs may want to rush to the direct line to god. Here goes, Thierry Henry, yep our squatter neighbour thorn in our side for many a year, started life at the campsite as a winger, Wenker had the foresight to try him as striker, the rest as they say is history. Wonder what the pikey king Wenker would do with Bale, (clean thoughts). Food for thought?

  35. what about dos santos? if he’s fit of course.

  36. Defoe will be back soon and when he’s got his match sharpness back he and VDV will terrorise teams.
Their movement, I reckon, will be awesome

  37. I don´t think Jerard even went to school.

  38. Fantasy land there man…it’s not FIFA, PES or any of the type.

  39. is it just me or are you guys trying to change the rules of the game?
I think you might come a cropper trying to field 12 players…….
If Harry did read this blog he might have a laugh instead of taking you seriously…..

  40. Coxie this system of Van ——-Bale ———Defoe upfront would mean Gomes could play in Bales position and in Goal at least he wont get sent of for running of his line , One word to help our fans to come on board Wallcott Wenger his saying he has arrived upfront and and Utd have the Pea Arsenal have Peanut brain and we have VBD VERY BAD DEFENCE. WITH OUT A GOALKEEPER SORRY LADS . I did correct myself Coxie Gerrard thought he was right and if Wallcott can play upfront then so can Bale bale bale s burst the net again. just think when he wins the Bale en Dor. Coxie we suggested he becomes a striker.

  41. …………….Gomes…………………
    ….Kiing(c)..Woodgate..Gallas…..
    Lennon.Huddlestone.Sandro.Bale
    ……..V.D.Vaart…Modric…………..
    ……………….Defoe………..

    Erm no full backs. Shit.

  42. Teddy hotspurr if you go down to the woods today your sure of a big surprise because Davspurs and Gerrard are waiting with twelve knuckles for you or is it ten . Bale his six foot plus and well built so he can take a few knocks and against Everton he had two players Marking him. This will happen a lot , and when both him and Lennon arrive in the box there is no one there The goal he scored against Milan both where there and Bale scored.. Like Wallcott did last night one through ball stay onside and your one on one and he scored .Bale started at the back moved to the middle and rose to the Worlds notice if he moves upfront we can emulate the Arsoles Van his Bergkamp and Bale could be our Henry Keep this going Coxie but stick to eleven because we have started a campaign for Twelve and eight subs four to play haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabreakdown coming on .
