Capoue has an unenviable task ahead of him. The task of keeping tabs on Luis Suarez. Suarez has been in red hot form scoring 15 goals this season. He has scored six in the last two matches alone. Making sure he has as less room as possible will be key for Tottenham to emerge victorious in their upcoming encounter against Liverpool.
Capoue was courted by Liverpool back in 2011 however he decided to stay in France at that time.
“I think it was the right decision,” he said this week.
“I knew English clubs were interested in me, but one reason why I didn’t come earlier was because the chairman didn’t agree and the other reason was that I wasn’t really ready for the Premier League.”
His decision to move to White Hart Lane was influenced by positive feedback from his France teammates Hugo Lloris and Younès Kaboul.
“Yes, they spoke very well of it too. I think I needed a change and the Premier League was the right next step. The more you play at a higher level, the more confidence you get. I have also become more mature.”
He laughed it off when suggested that the prospect of facing Suarez had kept him awake at nights.
“He is a very good player, an amazing player. It’s a good opportunity for me to show my mettle.”
The battle between Suarez and Capoue could be decisive to the match and with both teams fighting near the top end of the table, it assumes even more importance.
When asked what his plans to tackle Suarez were, he replied “I don’t know how. I will see during the game!”
