Surely our wonderful Chairman has something up his sleeve before next weekend’s opener against Newcastle United, we will travel to The Toon short of striking options if he doesn’t.

My fear is that Levy likes to wait until the end of the transfer window to pick up some cheap deals or save a couple of million but what damage does that do to us in our first 2 or 3 games of the season, it can cost us big. Last season we hadn’t completed our business and got tonked by both Manchester clubs and I am sure if we had done our business early that we might have given them a better run for their money (just look how well we done at City) and that could have been the difference between finishing 3rd and 4th.

Surely Levy can see that Spurs should go to Newcastle confident of picking up a result but if we only have Defoe as our only recognized striker than we leave ourselves with a massive disadvantage on the pitch and mentally, Newcastle will sense our weakness and get up for the match and maybe our players won’t be as confident.

There is a rumour gathering pace that Adebayor will be completed early this week and I just pray this turns out to be true, even if Ade joins we still need maybe another top striker and possible to start shifting the likes of Jenas and replace with higher quality because even if Modric is still at the club I can see the same scenario as last season where “his head won’t be in the right place” and he won’t play the first few games.

Levy is a clever man, I am sure he has been talking with AVB and identified some targets whether it’s Sturridge although after seeing him play today I doubt there is no deal in place there or even if Damiao is going to tempt Levy into finally taking a gamble on a player we have tracked for almost 3 years.

It’s important to get off to a good start, the top teams always try to wrap up their transfers by the end of July but for some reason we leave it until deadline day and I am afraid it’s starting to cost us more than our dear Chairman realises.

Fingers crossed for a busy week at The Lane…..
