Harry Redknapp has given his first major indication that Giovani Dos Santos could be set to stay at the club and take up a starring role ….. but only if his new found attitude sticks!!!

After an impressive showing for his native Mexico at this summers World Cup in South Africa, there has been no shortage of interest in the talented forward, with recent friendly opponents Fiorentina the latest club to have supposedly enquired about his availability on a season long loan deal.

Time To Step Up !!! - Gio

In the 2 years since his arrival from Spanish giants Barcelona, Gio has had loan spells at both Ipswich Town and, last season, Turkish club Galatasaray.

When questioned yesterday on the prospects of Gio staying and proving himself in the Lillywhite shirt, boss Redknapp said :
“Giovani has got outstanding ability and we’ve got a good prospect for the future,” he said. “He has got to dedicate himself and show he can do it every week, but he is knuckling down.”

I think most supporters will let out a huge sigh of relief upon hearing this latest quote from Harry. With the lack of new signings this summer so far, the emergence of Dos Santos will be viewed by many to be as good as a new signing! Given the chance and a decent run in the first XI, we can hopefully see the Gio that the rest of the world was so impressed with this summer!

  1. let’s hope so

  2. If he can perform week in and week out like Garth Bale, he would be invalueable to us as he is left footed, he can play left mid or in behind the striker an area we need cover for. Big season ahead for him hope he does it.

  3. forget about signing players this lad is as good as a new signing like the article says. i watched the fiorentina game and he was pulling all the strings, lets hope this is the season that gio emerges and shows us his true talent and i can just see him and gareth tearing defences open down the left hand side, as well as lennon and modric creating chances for Pav and Defoe to put away! exciting season ahead COYS!

  4. So why are we being linked with Young Midfield is the one area we are well of and Strikers . The one area we struggle with is experience at the back like Ferdinand . Ledley is superb all Spurs fans now this. The big problem with Ledley is we don’t no when he his struggling during games his knee must start stiffening near the end of games. This was highlighted by the Fantastic saves Gomes had to make. We can have a great season if we can buy a big experience player for Ledleys Knee. Bassong Kaboul Corluka Hudds who has not ean on the losing side playing at th back something no one mentions all these have not yet got the same abilaty has Ferdinand Vidic King . Lets hope if we cant buy one of these defenders then i hope bassong or Kaboul step up to the plate. coys

  5. I agree with Dav we should be prioritisng and the most important area atm is defence, on the matter of GDS I’m sure I read somewhere he is off to some friendly with Mexico which if true will scupper his chances for a start on Saturday.

    • Then it should scupper the chances of anyone else involved in internationals too, Gio can make it back in time for the match saturday.

  6. Don’t think Daws trip to wembley will take as much out of him as Gio’s trip to Mexico.

    • Profesionals, they deal with this sort of stuff, its the same as having a champions league game in midweek minus a couple of hours on the plane, should we not play anybody that plays in Europe in a premiership match on a saturday?

  7. Number one its not in Europe and number two our game is a midday kick off. I’ll guarantee none of the spanish team will be playing so soon after such a long trek. I’ve flown to that part of the world on numerous occasions and I’m knackered when i get back never mind playing a game of footy after it. If he’s back in time i’ve no doubt he’ll feature but a full game? No chance! which a great pity the recent form he’s been showing.

  8. Keep posting stuff like this i really like it
