Heurelho Gomes – 6

William Gallas – 7

Benoit Assou-Ekotto – 7

Michael Dawson – 7

Vedran Corluka – 7

Jermaine Jenas – 7

Steven Pienaar – 7

Sandro – 6

Jermain Defoe – 6

Roman Pavlyuchenko – 6

Niko Kranjcar – 8

So these are the ratings from Sky Sports on the squad that won at the Stadium Of Light. It’s only the 3rd time this season that Sunderland lose at home so it is quite of an accomplishment.

Last game there was a debate for man of the match and some said Niko most said Lennon for his 90 minutes hard work. This time I think we would all agree that man of the match is Niko Kranjcar. He really deserves it and Sky rated him the best in the team aswell.

What do you think about the ratings from skysports? Are they accurate in your opinion? And what about man of the match? Do you agree it’s Niko?

Just to make this clear: these are not my ratings! They are from skysports.

  1. I LIKED SANDRO FOR THE FIRST TIME LAST NIGHT I THOUGHT HE DID A GOOD JOB OF BEAKING UP THIER PLAY AND WINNING THE BALL BACK FOR US. I CANT UNDERSTAND WHY SKY ONLY GAVE HIM A 6 AFTER GIVING NEARLY EVERYONE ELSE A 7.

  2. the second half display by sandro was outstanding his best yet.
this boy will be a top player for spurs.
its gonna take a while still for him to get used to the pace.
niko in the last two games has gone up a gear long may it continue.

  3. Sandro 6? Watch the bloody match again. He was just behind Kranjar and ONLY because of the goal.
He and JJ alternated CD protection and die it so well that only the wings were available for Sunderland.
In his forward surges he reminded me(as he always has) of Mackay. If he keeps this up we may well have our MACKAY back

  4. Sandros should at least get 7.5

  5. Considering Sandro’s age and the fact that he has hardly played all season I thought his display was nothing short of outstanding 7.5

  6. Sandro came good because he played the entire game and hopefully HR did take a note of the fact if a player is given a full chance the performance would be satisfactory with a plus. So he does deserve a higher rating on merit. However, I thought the other Brazilian did even better and I mean our calamity goalkeeper, Gomes. For the first time he was seen safely and cleanly catching and not punching the ball when under pressure. He also showed cool nerves in the face of hostile crowds. Only in the second half did Jenas show some purposeful performance otherwise the player would be warming the bench for long spells when VDV, Modrich, Bale and Tom are back. Defoe is still struggling to regain his scoring touch and the same can be said of Pav. 6 is a flattering rating for both. Niko deserves the high rating of 8 but I would go for Dawson as the MoM.

  7. You havent a clue mate. jenas a 7 and sandro a 6. What game were you watching??….

  8. Sandro was a revalation in midfield he got bigger as the game progressed, and I got wetter watching his buldge grow hehe. Seriously he was great. Pav was utter shite his first touch is terrible and he gave the ball away to often, get rid Harry. Not sure about JJ yesterday. BAE had one of his poorer games with a lot of wasted balls hit long. Corluka looked cool under pressure, well done Charlie. So to Milan. Gomes, Charlie, Daws, Gallas, Bae, Lennon, Modders, Sandro, Nikko, VDV, Crouch. whhadya think boys? HHXX

    • Based on what I saw at the Stadium of Shite yesterdays, I would pick the following team for AC Milan:

      Formation: 4-1-4-1

      Gomes

      Corluka Dawson Gallas Assou-Ekotto

      Palacios

Lennon Modric Van der Vaart Kranjcar

      Crouch

  9. Agree with everyone else that Sandro was great. On Nico, although he won us the game, i have to point to the fact that the reason BAE struggled with his passes, was because Nico wasn`t there to help him out. BAE is used to Bale or Lennon gracing the left side, and he usually combine with them in an exellent matter. In this game Nico always went in to the middle, and BAE had no one to do his overlaps with.
That said; I love Nico, and hope he get`s the nod on tuesday, preferably in the middle (if Luca isn`t fit to play yet. Lennon, Nico, Sandro, VDV would be a great midfield against Milan. Still wanna play Defoe and Pav up front. It`s only a matter of time before they loose the hoodoo and goals will come with the famours ketchup effect 🙂

  10. After the 2nd half yesterday i think its time to give Sandro a run in the team in front of Jenas and Palacios. He seems to be adjusting to English football now and looks a better prospect for the future then the other two.

  11. This to all the Daws knockers (pun intended) he dug Gallas out of an hole several times yesterday and also pulled a goal back to make up for the one we conceded caused by the absence of Gallas (pun also intended) who was apparently having a shoe fitting at the time?

  12. These are the correct ratings (SKY got confused):

GOMES: 6.5 Would have been 7.5 but loses a point for being a drama queen (embarrassing).
CORLUKA: 7 A bit slow at times but pretty solid.
GALLAS: 6 Loses a point for fucking around with his boots when they scored (unprofessional).
DAWSON: 7.5 Solid in the air at both ends.
NIKO: 7.5 Great winning goal, but lazy at times.
SANDRO: 8 The only player to give the midfield real presence (much improved)
JENAS: 6 Average in the second half after an anonymous first (been on borrowed time for over 3 seasons now)
PIENAAR: 7 Energetic with some nice touches (finding his feet still).
PAVLYUCHENKO: 5.5 He tried, but I think he was born lazy (not cut of for the PL).
DEFOE: 5 Nothing going right for Defoe and has been easily dealt with this season (So much for the extra upper body strength. Too lightweight).

  13. Sandro 8!
Made that surging run to cross the ball. Huddlestone couldn’t run that fast!
He was always looking for the ball. His work ethic is fantastic.

I’m glad he got that counselling before he came here! It’s worked a treat!

  14. Horne’y Helen i find myself attracted to you but with the rumours of me being Davinaspurs and you being pete there could be trouble ahead one of us will get a hand full of Bollocks. My man of the match is all eleven because they made my weekend a whole lot better with Liverpool love in wobbling like i predicted they would. Just a funny incident on the Friday i was in my local shop putting the thunder ball, on, stood by the tills was the local mentally damaged Alcoholic making a nuisance of himself. He was telling everybody he is psychic. So on the way out i said if your psychic will Spurs win on Saturday he said you have no fucking chance then has i got to the door he asked who are you playing i said Sunderland he paused then he said you will win 2-1 this poor soul is my real man of the match because this shows even a damaged mind can talk sense especially when it comes to the mighty Spurs . COYS

  15. I think it is easier to say who was worst, rather than MOTM. JD’s best contribution was being subbed.

Having said that, I think Sandro has created a major prob for us. In a first choice MF of Lennon, Modric, Thud, VDV and Bale, who do we drop if he continues to improve at this rate. It’s a great problem to have though.

For those of us worried about 4th place and qualifying for the CL again next year and then waiting to see if we get past the qualifying round, I say “don’t worry”. We are four points ahead of where we were at the corresponding game last year, and I believe that when Annelka can’t get a regular starting spot for Chelsea, he will do his usual act of kicking over the table, and I also think Citeh will blow up with all it’s prima donnas. I predict third place and automatic entry to the group stages.

  16. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING OUT FOR THE LAD SANDRO FROM HE JOINED US FROM SOUTH AMERICA , A LOT OF YOU GAVE VERY POSITIVE VIEWS ON HIS PERFORMANCE I REALLY DO HOPE HARRY BOY HAS SEEN A POSITIVE IN SANDRO BUT IS HE READY FOR SAN SIRO I KNOW WHO IS NOT IE JJ A TOTAL WASTE OF HIS 5/6 YEARS HERE AT WHL THE GUY IS A COMPLETE NEGITIVE PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE HARRY LEAVE HIM AT THE LANE WITH THE THIRD TEAM ! TEAM WHERE POSSIABLE GOMES CORLUKA GALLAS DAWSON EKOTTO SANDRO LENNON MODRIC VDV KRANJAR CROUCH . SUBS DEFOE PAVLYUCHENKO HUTTON WOODGATE CUDICINI PALACIOS .

  17. As Sandro has become a regular part of the new post- South Africa Brasil, it’s obvious that he’s no mug (or JJ). All the Brasilian kids take time to adapt to moving to Europe & the Prem has to be tougher than mot for them. As long as Sandro’s nurtured and incentivated in the right way, he’s going to a diamond for us, for sure.

  18. Though Charlie was top drawer. And I don’t usually like him, but his ball through to Sandro for Kranjcar goal was superb. Loved the way he wound up Richardson as well. More of the same, please.

  19. *Thought*

  20. Agree with you Svein Kåre (im actually norwegian as well).
Niko is an awesome player, but notice that he always run inwards, leaving the width with nothing. I like Pienaar, but just as with Niko, not really adding any width to our midfield like Azza and Bale. Modric my #1 pick, but when he’s out, I’d prefer to see Niko in his position, as a central midfielder, and give another player the wing role. Henderson and Muntari stopped so much as central defensive midfielders. BAE had a poor game in my opinion, even though he is starting to grow on me. Agree with Sandros rating be to low. Compared to JD, who did nothing, Sandro deserved more.

As far as the strikers, I think we should get a world class striker, but in fairness to our current strikers, it’s not easy to just get a game, being benched again, then play another. Hope they get more time on the pitch, because we all know they are fully capable of scoring goals (Pav for Russia), but a bit of consistency might help.

  21. Sandro 6? Way off. He was as good as anyone else out there if not better. Niko was probably rightly judged man of the match. Charlie also had a great game. Sublime pass to put Sandro in to cross for the second goal.
