OK so Tottenham have been hit with the news that Defoe faces a 6 week lay off due to the ankle injury he picked up laying for England in midweek. It’s a blow for the club because Defoe had looked as though he had shaken off his groin injury and found some form at last before his latest set back. The news comes as a double blow because in the previous game we all saw what happend to Michael Dawson.

So that’s two of our top players out, we know Gallas, Bassong and King will share most of the center back duties while Dawson recovers but up top who is likely to be Harry’s number one striker in Defoe’s absence. The odds are on Pavluychenko being the main man, he seems to be a different player than this time last year, he has found confidence and it seems as though his confidence in himself has been passed on to Harry as the Spurs manager now rates Pav more highly.

Crouchy will still be used as he was but Robbie Keane may get more game time than he might have expected over the coming weeks but in the event we do play a 4-5-1 formation with the arrival of Van der Vaart then Pavluychenko will probably be the lone striker. So hopefully we hear the chants of super Pav over the next few weeks. There is only the small matter of our first Champions League game on Tuesday after we travel to the Hawthorns at the weekend to take on West Brom.

So Pavluychenko may finally get an extended run in the team, he seems to enjoy putting on a Spurs shirt once again and I have every faith he will do us proud, Crouchy and Keano will also play a big part for the next 6 weeks with games coming thick and fast Harry is going to have to rotate the squad. It is nice that now we finally have a big squad that we can cope with injuries with sufficent cover.

  1. Is anyone else not a bit confused as to why Spurs didn’t ask for Defoe to return to Spurs after getting injured against Bulgaria? He should of come back to Spurs but instead played against the Swiss and got another one on the ankle and now he’s out for six weeks! I think we missed a trick there folks….

I expect Rooney, Lampard, Terry, Gerrard and co wouldn’t have been risked…? Even if they did declare themselves fit. Defoe said he was fine but who is to say some of the damage wasn’t done in the Bulgaria game? I really think this one could of been avoided.

    Gutted.

Lets hope our three fit strikers go goal crazy!

  2. Seems to me that this latest version of the Wembley pitch may be causing the injury problems. Perhaps its too soft and results in players like Defoe, Dawson and Walcott rolling their ankles. Three somewhat similar injuries in 180 minutes of play is unusual.

  3. Err wasn’t it played in Switzerland? But you know that damned Wembley pitch, it certainly gets around and causes problems. Maybe we should use that plastic rubbish? Then again , maybe not : )

  4. I am hoping that in te best interest of the club – Robbie takes this oppty and shuts us all up by banging in the goals.

  5. Dream on Donny!!Keane has lost that edge that made him able to score goals in the premier league. He has slowed up,and can no longer take the opportunities
that once invoked goals and handstands. The emotional selfdestruction of Keane is a real tragedy. His limited intellegence could not realise that Liverpool were dec;ining and that Spurs were improving. His unsuccessful attempts to better himself by thinking that the grass is greener elsewhere have destroyed his popularity among Spurs supporters and made him a tragic figure.

  6. I think it should be Keane playing just behind Pav in a Rooney-Defoe type partnership.
Keane can hold the ball and make some nice through balls for Pav to feed from.
Alternatively, Lennon and Bale can feed low crosses as Pav isn’t known for his headers.

I think our Super Russian will come through for us as he has done so in the past when needed.

  7. SPURS HAS LOST A PREDATOR IN DEFOE,WHOM SIDELINES FOR 6-WEEK,PAV NOT SUPERB BUT WITH VDV IN THE MIDFIELD T SUPPLY & DELIVER SHOT PAV OR CROUNCHY CAN SCORE WHILE KEANO CAN GET MORE CHANCES IN THE 1ST TEAM.
