Well …… the time is almost upon us. Events in South Africa have been put firmly to the back of our minds and the serious business of the Premier League can now take centre stage.

On 5th May Peter Crouch headed us to a 1-0 win over Roberto Mancini’s side at Eastlands ….. and a season double over our Manchester rivals.

Same Again Please !!! - Crouch Breaks City Hearts

Now, in just a couple of days time, City visit the Lane equipped with new signings Yaya Toure, David Silva, Jerome Boateng and Aleksandar Kolarov ….. a side with £75m of improvements since our last meeting ….. and counting !

With only Sandro in for us so far and the Brazilian unable to make an appearance for Harry Redknapp’s side until his current commitments have been fulfilled, the Spurs line up should have a familiar look with Gio Dos Santos the only player looking ready to gate crash our first XI.

Gareth Bale should make the line-up for Spurs after shaking off the knock that forced him to miss out Wales’ midweek match with Luxembourg.

Roman Pavlyuchenko is still suffering with a hamstring injury and looks likely to miss out.

Jonathan Woodgate is still nowhere near a first-team return.

Well, they may have spent big but, Villareal aside, Harrys boys have had a decent pre-season so the City clash should not be striking fear into our boys on the opening day!

With confidence high following our Champions League qualification last time out … at the expense of City, you’d like to think that we could repeat our opening result against Liverpool from last season.

On the 2nd January 2007 Spurs announced the signing of what they believed to be a star in the making ……. The ‘New Zidane’ no less !!!

Rangers Bound - Adel Off To QPR

After just 9 first team outings and no goals in competitive matches Adel Taarabt looks set to move back to Queens Park Rangers ….. this time on a permanent deal.

The Moroccan international ,21, who moved to the Lane from French club Lens in 2007 (initially on loan) struggled to break into the first team under both Martin Jol and Harry Redknapp and appears to be ready to make the move to gain regular first team football.

“The big mistake was to sign for Tottenham and not go to another club when I first came over” – Not words to get the Spurs faithful on side and chanting his name – Taarabt proceeded to spurt yet more ill advised comments when he told reporters only a couple of months ago – “I hope to be playing for one of the top four in Spain next season — Real Madrid ,Barcelona, Valencia or Sevilla. I have contact with good teams and I know that they want me. Now I just have to hope they can agree a deal with Tottenham.”

Well, unfortunately the big 4 in La Liga forgot to bid and Adel now looks set to put the finishing touches on a £1m move back to the club at which he spent last season on loan.

So, with another one off through the White Hart Lane exit door, are you glad or disappointed to see the back of Taarabt? The kid undoubtedly has ability, but failed to find one specific position in which to ply his talents. His debut in the match against West Ham showed a glimpse of what he could do and at the time we were all desperate to see more of him but in the end the few appearances that followed left us with that disappointed feeling and most will probably not be too bothered to see him leave.

Any comments as usual in the box below …..

Front man and full back on way out of the White Hart Lane door?

Reports in the press last week suggesting that new Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson was planning a swoop for Spurs striker Peter Crouch have gathered pace today. Now speculation has arisen that any bid could be twinned with another deal to try to take Cameroon left back Benoit Assou Ekotto to Anfield aswell!

Crouch In The Red Again Next Season ?

Hodgson Target - Ekotto ?

After announcing that star striker Fernando Torres had committed his future to the Merseyside club, Hodgson has now set about pairing the former Athletico Madrid front man with a new strike partner and has set his sights on Spurs’ former Liverpool man Crouch.

With Harry Redknapp publicly searching for a new front man and Roman Pavlyuchenko seemingly ready to stay put and fight for his place next season, Crouch’s chances of a regular start seem to be deteriorating by the second. Crouch could therefore quite conceivably see a move back to his former club in a favourable light considering his prospects at the Lane going into the new campaign.

Ekotto is a stranger story, however this rumour seems to be gathering momentum on a daily basis and now appears to have some substance. Unhappy with his current options at left back, Hodgson now seems ready to move for the Spurs man to add some balance to his Liverpool side, and sees B.A.E as the perfect option to play in behind prospective signing Royston Drenthe.

Can you see either move coming off? Would you be upset to see either player leave the Lane at this time? Let us know in the comments box below …..

Gareth Bale has spoken of his praise for Harry and the Tottenham team for last seasons efforts. Bale said he couldn’t wait for the new season to start when Tottenham face Manchester City who will be hungry for revenge.

Bale can afford an even bigger smile now as Pav maybe staying

Bale, 20, said: “That defeat against Portsmouth hurt so much and we were obviously down after it.

“But we used it to give ourselves a kick up the backside. The manager made us realise we couldn’t let it affect us in a negative way.

“Rather than mope and feel sorry for ourselves, we used it in a positive way and managed to get to fourth in the table – which was unbelievable for the club and the fans.”

“Champions League football is what you have to aim for at a club like this.

“But that doesn’t mean we can sit back and reflect on the achievement.

“Now we must take our football to the next level and that is the task ahead for us in the new season.

“I can’t wait – and obviously Manchester City at home in our first game is a great fixture given the tussle we had with them last season for fourth.”

Boom Boom Boom let me hear you say Bale……

You’ve got to admire Gaeth Bale for his amazing end to last season, it’s a scary thought but if you think about it logically, it wasn’t down to Harry seeing the boy had potential it was just fate that BAE got injured so Bale got his chance, if that hadn’t happend then Bale would probably have been sold this summer, scary thought hey?

From one player to the next, Roman Pavlyuchenko’s agent has claimed the 28 year old striker will be staying at Spurs, at least for now. His agent Oleg Artemov said  “Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is not going to let Roman leave, he is necessary for Harry Redknapp. With Tottenham about to make their debut in the Champions League it would seem Redknapp wants as many options up front as possible and Pavlyuchenko does not want to miss the opportunity.

“Roman himself does not want to leave England but, if that does happen, he will return to a Russian club.

“We have noted information appeared regarding the possible departure of the striker. Among contenders were Sporting Lisbon and Spartak Moscow.

“But I did not see any movement from Spartak – there were no specifics.

“Interest from both Zenit and Lokomotiv, as was reported in Britain, was nothing.”

Again this in my view is good news, I think Pav has done enough to prove he is worth holding onto for another season, he scored a good brace agaisnt Bournemouth in a friendly and with Robbie Keane destined to leave is it really wise to sell Pav too?

Nice bit of positive news this fine Sunday morning, Bale is happy, Pav might be staying, so guess what? I am happy just like Bale.

Boss Harry Redknapp has spoken out for the first time about his hopes for this coming season and has set his sights sky high ……. on winning the Premiership !!!

After securing our first crack at Champions League football last time around, Harry has re-evaluated his playing staff and believes that 2-3 new players could be enough to take the next step up to compete for our first league title in what would be 50 years! If I was a sports betting man I would take a punt on Tottenham being there or there abouts next season.

“We need two or three players who can make the difference,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.

“We’ve got a big squad, but I do feel we need just that little bit of quality in one or two areas if we’re going to move on from where we were last year.”

“We did great last year, but we just need to push on and maintain that.

“We want to win the championship. It’s not impossible.

“Fourth place last year was marvellous, but I think this is the best chance Tottenham have had in how many years to really push on and maintain that, and become a regular top four team and maybe push for a championship.

“We’re never going to get a better chance so now’s the time to have a go at doing that. So I still feel with two or three players it would make the difference and give us the squad we need. And if we get them in I think the sky’s the limit for us.”

Well ….. one of the 2-3 new players Redknapp is talking about could be Real Madrid legend Raul. At 33, Raul has found his chances at the Spanish giants restricted over the last couple of seasons and is set to be released on a free by the Madrid club.

Available - Real Madrid's Raul

Top scorer in the Champions League, he would certainly have both the pedigree and experience to make a difference for us next season in the way in which Edgar Davids did for Martin Jol’s side a few years back, the question is ….. does he still have the enthusiasm and desire for a new challenge and the heart to fight in the English Premiership?

With interest (and a lot of money!) being shown in the player from the U.S and Dubai, if he were to choose Spurs you could rule out money being a factor in the move, which would suggest that he is motivated enough to step up to the challenge.

Don’t forget Tottenham take on NY Red Bulls early hours of tomorrow morning live on ESPN. Also don’t forget I will put the stream live on the forum, I will embed it into the forum >>HERE<< so make sure you register for access and we can chat during the match.

What do you make of Harry’s comments? Could we really be just 2 or 3 players away from a title tilt or is the boss just talking up our chances to attract new players? Would Raul be a player you’d like to see lining up in the Lillywhite shirt next season?

Let us know, along with any other thoughts in the comments box below …..

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has set his sights on a cut price move for Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy after seeing Joe Cole apparently lured to Liverpool by the Anfield club’s £90,000 a week offer.

The Price Is Right - Redknapp Back In For Craig

Following countless weeks of speculation, former Chelsea star Joe Cole has finally put the longest running transfer saga of the summer to bed ….. with Liverpool his chosen destination.

According to reports Cole, 29 has accepted the bumper £90k a week offer put to him by new reds boss Roy Hodgson and will link up with England team mates Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Glen Johnson at Anfield for the start of the new season.

Following Cole’s reported decision, Harry Redknapp has quickly moved to secure the signature of City star Bellamy.

The much travelled, much maligned striker is set to become Redknapp’s second major squad addition of the summer after the capture of Brazilian midfielder Sandro from Internacional.

Transfer fees being reported are between £3m – £5m and if Spurs chief Daniel Levy could get that down towards the lower end of the scale then it would appear to represent good business for the club when you take into account the probable departure of Robbie Keane.

Meanwhile, comments attributed to Redknapp yesterday suggest that Croation stopper Stipe Pletikosa is on his way to the Lane as competition for Gomes and Cudicini. The 31 year old Spartak Moscow star was close to joining the club last year before a knee injury scuppered plans at that time. Redknapp now appears to be convinced that his injury is behind him and said :

“I might be taking another goalkeeper from Croatia … Pletikosa.

“There is every chance I might be getting him so that’s good.”

Disappointed not to see the Cole deal come off? Would you welcome Craig Bellamy to the Lane or do you think he’d have an unsettling effect on the squad? Who else would you like to see brought in before the window slams shut?

Come And Get Me - But Is He N17 Bound?

Sevilla’s Brazilian goal machine Luis Fabiano has issued an apparent come and get me plea to White Hart Lane chief Harry Redknapp.

The 29-year old former Sao Paulo and Porto striker, who found the back of the net three times at this summers World Cup in South Africa, has been made available by his Spanish employers and was offered to the North London club earlier this week.

At £150,000 a week, Spurs chief Redknapp was initially wary of doing a deal, fully aware of the stringent White Hart Lane wage structure.

However, Fabiano’s comments suggest that he is interested in a move to move to White Hart Lane, leaving us with the exciting prospect that a compromise could yet be found!

Speaking to reporters, Fabiano said :

“I must admit it’s only in the last few weeks I have understood just how big Spurs’ ambition is,” said the forward, who previously attracted interest from AC Milan and Manchester United.

Fabiano would certainly fit into the ‘marquee’ category that Harry Redknapp has so often spoken about this summer and I would imagine that every Spurs fan would be delighted to welcome the Samba star to the Lane. Whether or not the players comments are only offering us false hope remains to be seen but this is certainly one deal that is worth keeping your fingers crossed for!

With the club yesterday confirming that manager Harry Redknapp has signed a new 3 year contract to stay at White Hart Lane … news that will no doubt quash the fears many supporters of the club will have had, we can now look to the future with greater optimism and purpose.

He Stays ! - 3 More Years For 'Arry.

With all the speculation regarding first Harry and Liverpool and then Harry and the England job, attention to the most important, most interesting and most exciting part of our summer (our transfer dealings!) was forced to take a back seat.

Now that we know he’s staying, we can look on and begin to speculate on who he will look to bring in to improve an already excellent squad. With Champions League football on the way this coming season we can expect to see links to a higher calibre of player than in previous transfer windows , the question is …… who will be Harry’s ‘Marquee’ signing?

Let’s take a look at some of the most linked, and most likely candidates …..

Craig Bellamy – According to some sources, this one is as good as a done deal. The much travelled (8 clubs and counting) Welshman has fallen out of favour with Roberto Mancini and would welcome a move away from Eastlands to secure first team football. Harry was linked with him before he left West Ham but at 31, and most likely to be on big wages at City, would Daniel Levy sanction a deal for a player who could possibly rock the White Hart Lane boat?

Sevilla Man Fabiano - Could He Be Lane Bound?

Luis Fabiano – The Brazilian World Cup star, currently plying his trade in La Liga at Sevilla, is a known favourite of Harry’s. After a good world cup for the South American side, Fabiano will no doubt have aquired the glances of many of Europe’s top managers, but if his recent admission (about only wanting a switch to Man Utd or Real Madrid) is anything to go by then this one is a non starter! Harry though remains optimistic and only today spoke of how he thinks that the Brazilian could be available to the club. We can only wait and see but if this one came off, it would certainly signal our intent to challenge for major honours this time around.

Joe Cole – What more can be said about the possibility of this deal coming off? I won’t bore you with it like everyone else is doing at the moment, but with Levy currently in talks with Cole’s people we can expect an end to this saga one way or another fairly soon …… or at least we hope we can !

Richards - The City Man Could Do A Job For Us.

Micah Richards – Gone a bit quiet this one, but he’s certainly a player that I think would be a good acquisition for the club. Strong, pacey and athletic, Richards would be a good player to call upon when up against teams with genuine pace in wide areas. While Corluka has done a great job for us out on the right, he is lacking in the speed department and sometimes prone to getting caught in advanced positions. With the long term futures of King and Woody under yet more scrutiny, Richards’ ability to move in at centre half is another reason why Harry should consider a move for the talented defender.

Luis Suarez – After Martin Jol’s recent comments that Tottenham weren’t a big enough club to tempt the Ajax man, the player himself reignited talks of a switch to N17 yesterday by saying :

Suarez - Interested ?

‘Tottenham hold appeal as well though, they are a team with great ambition and have done well to reach the Champions League, ‘I like team that have shown ambition through the money they spend.”

Suarez, is a player I’d definately be pleased to see at the Lane next season. Young, quick and a good finisher make the Uruguayan a natural target for Harry Redknapp. Whether his comments suggest Harry has already made an approach, we must wait and see!

Who else could improve our squad next season? Heard of any other possible deals in the pipeline? Let us know using the comments box below …..

Spurs Look To Italian Stopper For Gomes Competition

Harry Redknapp was delighted to confirm that Carlo Cudicini is fit and ready for the new season following the Italian’s return to action in Bournemouth friendly.

Fit & Well - Cudicini looks forward to new season!

Spurs took on one of Harry Redknapp’s old clubs, Bournemouth at Dean Court on Saturday, with Cudicini starting between the sticks for the first time since his motorcycle accident last November.

The former Chelsea stopper sustained injuries to his pelvis and both wrists in the accident and immediately set about regaining his fitness after leaving hospital following surgery.

Spurs won the game 4-0 with Cudicini pulling off a couple of smart stops to maintain a clean sheet on his return to action.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Redknapp, said: “I’m so pleased he has recovered, absolutely delighted.

“It is great to have him back and available. He looked good today and that’s great news for him and for us. He is ready to go.

“He is a great professional, a terrific goalkeeper and a top guy. He has done fantastic to recover after that horrific accident.

“He has just got on with it and worked his socks off to get fit again. We all knew he faced a struggle to get fit but he has worked hard with Tony Parks everyday all through the summer and he feels good.”

If his recovery is complete it signals great news for the club and the player. With concerns over the abilities of Ben Alnwick and no other recognised goalkeeper on the books, the return of the Italian will be seen as a great boost for Redknapp’s side heading into the new season.

Redknapp shows an interest in Sporting front man …..

Spurs target ? ..... Lisbon's Djalo

The agent of Sporting Lisbon forward Yannick Djalo has revealed that Spurs and Newcastle Utd are battling it out for the Portuguese forward’s signature this summer.

24-year-old Djalo, who can also operate as a winger, is highly rated by the Portuguese club.

But financial worries at the club mean they may now be forced to sell their most valuable asset.

The striker’s agent Lionel Silva has revealed that there has been concrete interest from England, with Harry Redknapp an admirer of the  portuguese youngster.

“The two clubs are interested” agent Silva said.

“But we have not reached an understanding with regard to price. We have to wait a little longer.

“He (Djalo) fancies the idea of going to England, because playing in the English Premier League is a dream for most players.

“But while there is not total agreement on a deal, Yannick has to report to work (at Sporting) every day.”

Personally, I’m not sure how much truth there is in this one. Sounds a bit like the agent is trying to spark a bidding war and drive his client’s price up. However he does look a decent player and you would imagine he could do a job for us during the course of the season. Whether he’s got the potential to become a fixture in the side and compete at Champions League level is up to Harry to decide!

What do you think?

Jul 112010

HARRY REDKNAPP has reportedly agreed a new three year deal to mastermind Tottenham’s Champions League challenge.

He Stays !!! - 3 year deal for 'Arry !

Redknapp had held talks with ambitious side Al Ahli of Dubai last month, but has opted to stay with the lillywhites.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy put the finishing touches to Redknapp’s new deal just as the club began their pre-season preparations with a comfortable 4-0 win at Bournemouth.

He has taken up a two-year option to extend Redknapp’s £3m-a-year deal as they aim to consolidate their position as a top four team.

Redknapp has been given a 10 per cent pay rise after lengthy discussions with Levy.

He had a year left on his existing contract, but he now has a deal to stay at Spurs until 2013.

Redknapp had been tempted by the £3m-a-year tax free deal on offer in Dubai, but the club refused to pay his £8m release fee.

The Arab side offered the former Pompey boss various incentives to sign, including a villa, chauffeur-driven car and healthcare for his family as part of an amazing package.

Instead, Redknapp wants to finish the job at Tottenham and has turned his attention to boosting his squad for their debut season in the Champions League.

What he wants …..

Levy has another meeting with Joe Cole’s agent in the diary, but his wage demands would break Spurs’ strict wage policy.

White Hart Lane’s top earners pull in around £60,000 a week and Cole left Chelsea on just short of £80,000.

He has been offered a deal by Arsenal, but has been playing a waiting game after the World Cup.

Redknapp is also on the lookout for a top drawer central defender as doubts continue over Jonathan Woodgate’s future.

Woodgate returned from a long-term treatment plan in Australia two weeks ago, but there is no return date set.

Ledley King’s appearances are also restricted with his chronic knee condition, leaving Redknapp with no alternative but to plan for the worst case scenario.

Jul 102010

Where are they? Manchester City are showing they mean business and personally I think they will break the top 4 this season which means we have got to start doing some business in the trasnfer window sooner rather than later. With only 5 weeks to go till the start of the Premiership and a Champions League qualifying game to worry about we need to get the new faces in and the dead wood out to give the team time to gel together do we not?

I seem to remember Harry stating that he wanted to do all of his summer business early but so far nothing. I am confident we will get Joe Cole possibly some time next week but apart from that it’s been like any other summer, linked to every Tom,Dick and Harry but so far no action, it all has a rather all too familiar feel to it for my liking. What worries me the most is we get linked to some very tasty European players and then the next minute, like today, you hear we are trying to sign Craig Bellamy. Surely we can now afford to aim a bit higher than that?

Action is needed on the players that are surplus to requirements, I have heard most fans and myself included think that it’s time for Jenas to move on. You then have to likes of Keane,Hutton,O’hara, and Pav, who could be on the way out. Two players tipped to move are Dos Santos and Bentley but personally I think Gio has shown he might be worth sticking with a bit longer and Bentley done a decent enough job when Lennon was injured towards the end of last season and has shown he might just be worth keeping.

The worry is apart from possibly Joe Cole, just who else exactly is there to sign? who is available of real quality that will improve our squad? Surely the aim for the league next season has got to be to stay in the top 4 again but for that to happen we need to cash in on 3 or 4 of our squad and replace them sooner rather than later with some real quality. Even the scum down the road are spending money, which shows they are worried about the possible force Manchester City might be next season.

With all of this in mind I still remain confident that Redknapp has a few players in the pipeline and I truely hope I am right, because if there was ever a time to attract bigger and better players and really show we mean business then that time is now. If we don’t stay in the top 4 then do we go back to being the same Tottenham Hotspur we have been for the last 20 years? So how much longer will we have to wait to see some action and when we do will it be signings that we have all dreamed of or is Harry still in Portsmouth and West Ham mode trying to pick up bargain rejects?
