Spurs’ Welsh wizard speaks about next season’s prospects, old team mate Theo Walcott and finishing above that lot down the road !!!

Bale thinks Harry Redknapp's side could be ready to mount a title challenge!

Spurs’ much improved full back Gareth Bale believes his club are ready to step up their game again next season and mount a challenge for the Premier League title.

Harry Redknapp’s side ended years of disillusionment and frustration this season, when they fired the White Hart Lane outfit to fourth place and a first ever crack at europes elite in the Champions League.

And now, Wales star Bale (left) is convinced that they can rise to the challenge of competing with Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal – if Redknapp works some of his famous magic during the transfer window :

“We’ve got a good team and I think if we invest in a few more players I don’t think there’s any reason why we can’t go a little bit further. I’d say challenging for the title is the main aim for every single team and I don’t see any reason why we couldn’t mount a challenge.”

Bale then went on to speak of his desire to guide the club to their first finish above north London rivals Arsenal in over 15 years! Finishing just 5 points behind the red half of the territory last time around, Bale hopes that this time the tide will turn once and for all :

“I hope this is the year we finish ahead of them,” he added. “We’ve got just as good a squad as them and there’s no reason why we can’t beat them in the Premier League this year.”

Part of that Arsenal squad is Theo Walcott whom Bale grew up playing alongside in the Southampton youth ranks. Bale says he was shocked to see his former teammate omitted from the England side that travelled to South Africa and believes his friend could have added a different dimension to Fabio Capello’s sides game :

“It was a big shock to me,” said Bale. “I honestly think that with his pace he adds a different element to any team. It’s a shame he didn’t go.”

So, what do you think? (Not about Theo Walcott obviously ….. no one cares about that lot!) Do you think that with a little tweek from Harry we could have a squad capable of challenging for Premier League honours? Can we strike a balance between league and champs league assaults? What players would you like to see brought in to take us up to that next level?

Harry speaks with renewed confidence, but do we really need the former Chelsea man ?

At first it seemed too good to be true. Joe Cole, one of Harry’s former fledglings at West Ham, Premiership superstar and England regular – released by Chelsea and available on a free !

Harry showed an immediate interest, plastered all over the papers and a regular topic on Sky Sports News, the former Chelsea man was only destined for one place ……. White Hart Lane.

All of a sudden, interest cooled and Redknapp was all over the back pages telling everyone how he thought Joe had already agreed a deal with another club.(Thought to be Man Utd or Arsenal) The world cup began and our attentions turned elsewhere.

Then, out of the blue, the links resurface and only yesterday Harry was back talking to the press about his renewed hope over the deal and how he’d deploy Cole in his Spurs side and how he could become an integral part of our Champions League challenge!

The question I’d like to pose is this – Do we really need Joe Cole? …

Before you slate me in the comments box below, don’t get me wrong …… I think Joe Cole is a terrific player …… it’s just that he’s very similar in stature and ability to a few players already on our books and with the sums of money being bandied about, I wonder if we’d be better off spending the signing on fee (probably huge!) and wages in strengthening other areas of the team ?!?!?

When you consider the long term futures of players like Ledley and Woody and their chances of playing any kind of extended run in the side over the coming 12 months, you have to wonder if a Champions League quality centre half is more of a priority or more worthy of stretching the wage structure for? Kaboul, Bassong et all are all good partners for Daws  in the Premier league, but would you be confident seeing them named in the starting XI for a big CL match at the Nou Camp? …… Probably not !!!

Modric, Kranjcar (to an extent), Gio Dos Santos and Lennon have all shown in recent times that they can, and are comfortable playing off a front man or in the hole just behind, and Modric and Gio are both more than capable of doing a good job out on the left. Therefore, where would Joe Cole fit in? …… And at the expense of who?

My preference would be to see Gio (get his head down) deployed on the left and Modric to play in the hole, or even in a more central position. If I had Cole and Modric in the same squad I’d be picking Luka first all day long …… would Harry do the same, or would we see the Croatian schemer heading for the White Hart Lane exit?

I hope not!

I had a bet with a work collegue a few weeks ago, when reports were coming out Joe Cole had done a deal with Arsenal I said all along that he would join Spurs. My reasons were having watched Redknapp his whole managerial career I know how he loves a bargain and how well he knows Joe Cole, and when you put both of these together it stands to reason that Harry would put up a fight to sign Cole.

Today Redknapp admitted he is now in talks with Cole over a move to the lane

“You know he’s got lots of options, I think quite a few clubs want him,” said Redknapp.

“I had a great relationship with him as a kid; I signed him when he was 11 years of age.

“As I said before he lived for football, he was the best schoolboy footballer I have ever seen without a doubt.

“He has still got that enthusiasm I think, but whether there is a chance of getting him, I feel there is a chance.

“I don’t think it will be easy, but I think we have got as good a chance as anybody.”

I know Harry likes to play it down to the press, but i said weeks ago on here that I am so confident he will be a Spurs player I am prepared to get his name on the back of my shirt. Why would he want to work with Wenger and his foreign legion when he can work with Harry and play with his fellow England team mates who have probably spent the World Cup telling Cole to join us.

I would put a bet on it by this time next week Joe Cole is a Tottenham player.

Harry Redknapp, that’s why. No not in appointing him but by stalling his contract talks, as soon as we finished 4th they should have tied him down to a new contract as soon as possible but they didn’t and now it could turn out to be a huge mistake.

England’s awful display at the World Cup has cast doubt over the future of Fabio Capello. Now we have heard the rumors that Redknapp and Hodgson are the front runners for the job. Both managers have stated that they would not be able to turn down the chance to manage their country and with both managers heading towards the back end of their careers can you really blame them?.

Spurs failed to sit down with Harry and offer him a deal to keep him at the the club, so when you consider how much compensation would be due to Capello if he was sacked, how appealing does getting Redknapp in on the cheap look for the FA. With only 1 year left on his contract the FA could take Harry and pay us peanuts, however if we had been sensible and tied him down to a 4 year contract and the worse was to happen then we could expect some big compensation.

Now Harry knows there is possibly a chance to manage England just around the corner do you really think he will want to start talks over a new contract now? because I don’t. I can’t for the life of me figure out why the man was not offered a new contract, he has performed a miracle at the club and we have the audacity to mess him about by making him wait for a new contract when he has stated he loves it at Spurs and wants to stay.

I for one will be praying that Capello keeps his job for the sake of us Spurs fans or we could face losing our “Arry” on the cheap and then having to find the cash to buy out the contract of our next manager. Now don’t panic just yet, this is just speculation but if the FA make their move then Harry would take the job and get only pennies in return. The Football Association must be rubbing their hands together at the mouthwatering prospect at getting a highly respected English manager for what might as well be a free transfer. Levy hasn’t done much wrong recently but this could prove to be his biggest blunder to date, what were they thinking, what more does Harry have to do to be made to feel wanted by the club? So take note people, before you start shouting “Capello out” be careful what you wish for.

Tomorrow is England v Germany in what is a massive must win game, the streets will be dead for 90mins, you will hear cheers from houses on your street should England score. There surely is nothing like the World Cup to unite the nation. Well with the nation united I am now probably going to divide us Spurs fans with one not so simple question. Defoe or Klinsmann.

Following on from my previous blog on Modric or Ginola (you can still have your say here Modric or Ginola) I have decided as it is the long awaited World Cup revenge match between England and German that I would do the same again but with a present Spurs legend Defoe and another historic Tottenham legend in Jurgen Klinsmann.

Klinsmann scored a total of 30 Premiership goals for Tottenham in 2 seperate spells in the 90s. His first spell came in 1994/95 where he scored on his debut against Sheffield Wednesday followed by the infamous Klinsmann dive celebration. Klinsmann finished the league season with 21 goals and won the footballer of the year award before his controversial departure to Bayern Munich, much to the disgust of then Spurs chairman Sir Alan Sugar. In a twist of fate Klinsmann returned to the club in the 1998/99 season for a loan spell towards the end of the season where he helped save Tottenham for relegation with 9 goals in 15 games, most noticably 4 goals agaisnt Wimbledon.

Jermain Defoe joined the club in 2004 following the relegation of his then club West Ham United. Like Klinsmann, Defoe has also had 2 spells at the club. His first spell from 2004 to 2008 saw Defoe net 43 goals in 139 games, however although not as good as Klinsmann’s record, you need to take into account that Defoe fell out of favour with Martin Jol and made a lot of appearances from the subs bench. Defoe unlike Klinsmann was sold to Portsmouth but it was more the clubs decision rather than Jermain wanting to leave, if he had been playing on a regular basis he would no doubt have wanted to stay. Harry Redknapp was the appointed manager and resigned Defoe in 2009 and to the present day Defoe still plays his football at the lane, so far scoring 21 goals in 42 games.

Although both players are from a different era although not too far apart, which one would you want in your team today if both were still playing. Although because he is English and is at Tottenham at present I am swaying towards Defoe although something tells me Klinsmann was the more complete striker and had more to his game than Defoe. So I think if someone put a gun to my head and made me make a choice I would although a tough decision opt for Jurgen, but only just. Lets see what you guys think, and remember if you want to have your say on the Modric or Ginola article you can find it here Modric or Ginola.

Stay tuned as I will be doing more of these in the future, it’s not nice to have to chose between iconic Spurs players but then again who ever said I was nice.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes Manchester United may have already struck a deal for Joe Cole.

The 28-year-old will not have his Chelsea contract renewed this summer and a number of clubs have been chasing his signature.

Redknapp has confirmed that he would love to see the midfielder move to Spurs, while Arsenal and United are also thought to be trailing the England international.

But while Redknapp wants Cole at White Hart Lane, he thinks the Red Devils may have already won the race to sign him.

“I’ve got a feeling that it might have been done (for Cole to join United),” he said.

“It wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Joe’s not wanted to speak to anybody and his people have been saying ‘let’s get the World Cup out of the way first’.

“But we’d be interested for sure. I like Joe.”

Cole has been the subject of much debate in recent days as he has yet to make an appearance for England in this summer’s World Cup.

Taken from the Sky Sports interview, hope it’s not true, I like Cole and was hoping for a bargain free transfer. Really thought Harry wouldn’t let him slip through the net, but who can turn down Fergie? Still, while there’s Arry there’s hope.

Diego Forlan is wanted by Tottenham.

The 31-year-old Uruguayan striker has been one of the stars of the World Cup in South Africa and Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp rates him highly.

Atletico Madrid relied heavily on Forlan in their Europa League triumph and he scored twice in the final as they beat Fulham.

But the stumbling block could be Forlan’s age – and the price that Atletico will demand.

They will want in excess of £12million, while Spurs would not be prepared to go higher than £8.5m.

But Redknapp feels a player of his experience will be vital as Spurs go for the Champions League.

Now forgive me here but when Harry said he wanted that 1 special player this summer I really pray to god he didn’t mean Diego Forlan. I can’t deny that Forlan in Spain is not the same Forlan that played in England but I remember Savo Milosovic in the 90s going to Spain and being top scorer after not really impressing in England, so what makes Forlan any different?.

My personal opinion on this subject is that I hope Harry is having a laugh here, I just think the style of Spanish football helps Forlan and his game. I think if he were to come back to the Premiership he would not be as deadly but go back to being that donkey we all remember from his Man Utd days.

We then move on to the price, £12mil for a player of 31 and which in 2 years will be worthless. It will be a pricey gamble because if he does flop at Spurs then nobody in their right minds is going to stump up anywhere near that amount for a 31 year old flop. The one thing I admire about Daniel Levy is that he is a good business man when it comes to deals and usually buys players of younger age who can be sold on in the future. My only worry here is the persuasive power of Harry, especially now we have secured 4th place in the Premier League.

I really hope this is a nasty rumor that just won’t go away because for £12millon we could get so much more for our money than Diego Forlan, however this is just my opinion on Forlan and I will not start doutbing Harry after what he has done for the club, so god forbid if he really wants to sign Diego Forlan then as much as that pains me, he has my full support.

Step up Ledley King, as we all know the England and Tottenham center half is likely to be out for the next 3 weeks. How does this rate on the luck scale? well when you consider Ledley last played a major tournament for England in Euro 2004 but had to fly home during the group stages after an impressive performance agaisnt France due to the birth of his first child (Yes it was a bit awful timing but it showed Ledley to be the true decent, honest and loyal man he is). I’d say his luck is off the scale.

Since 2004, Ledley has been plagued by his mysterious knee injury which prevents him training with the rest of the team. After each match his knee swells up and he is in pain for a few days. On average now if other injuries permit he can manage 1 game a week for Tottenham. The most amazing part of this story is the fact that Ledley is still one of the best defenders in the Premier League, he was instrumental in Tottenham finishing in the top 4 for the first time this season.

King picked up a groin injury agaisnt USA in Englands World Cup opening match, a scan has revealed a tear which is likley to mean 3 weeks out for Ledley and probably the end of his tournament. He has had the worst luck in football from a personal point of view in the last 5 years, god only knows how good he could have been if he wasn’t cursed with a crocked knee. Harry Redknapp himself even says it would be scary to think just how good this guy could be because he is one of the best defenders around and doesn’t even train. It defies all logic.

It is a shame but I am glad his talent has been seen by Capello and he got his chance, I just hope that Dawson is the man to replace him although somehow I doubt it. All Spurs fans know just how good King and Dawson are and could do a job for England. The only thing that bugs me is all the non Tottenham fans coming out and saying this just proves that Ledley should never have gone to South Africa. Do they even know that this is a completely new injury that King has picked up? do they even care? No!, they just jump on the Ledley King bandwagon. Let me tell you that if Ledders had managed to keep himself fit all his career I would bet my life he would have been England captain, he has the attitude, ability and character.

When it comes to football I declare Ledley King the unluckiest man in recent times, but maybe it is a blessing in disguise because if he had kept fit would he still be a Tottenham player? my heart says yes but who knows what big offers would have come in for him.

I’ve rated Giovani dos Santos for god knows how long, when we signed him I was as excited as the rest of you, and so cheap at around the £4mil mark. It looks likely that he will be on his way out in the summer, but is it just me or does anyone else still see something special in this kid?, do you have the same fears that I do that if we sold him it would come back to haunt us. The way he runs with the ball reminds me of a younger Ronaldinho as he was once dubbed.

I keep asking myself, everytime I watch Mexico play he seems to be the best player on the field or at the very least the mexico team. Today I watch the opening World Cup 2010 game, South Africa V Mexico and once again Gio was the main man. Gio looked to be the one creating things and pulling the strings, it looked as though everything Mexico created came through him. I watched England V Mexico the other day and again Gio dos Santos has a decent game agaisnt good opposition.

Now I keep going over in my headas to why a player who is the star for his national side and played for Barcelona at such a young age and was destined to go on to great things can slowly be fading away in a Tottenham side. It seems to me the majority of the Tottenham supporters would like to see this boy give more of a chance in the team, next season would be ideal to give him some more time because of the fixture pile up. Now what really scares me is that Harry is missing a trick with this young lad and if we let him go we might just end up regretting it (I think we will). If it wasn’t for the fact that Ekotto got injured in January we would probably be saying au revoir to Gareth Bale this summer too, but as fate had it we got to see exactly why we paid out £10mil for Bale and now he is in the heart of the team. What concerns me is thats exactly what it was “fate” and not good managment that saved us from the disaster of letting Gareth Bale leave the lane. It scares me that it was only the fact we had no other left back and that Bale took his chance rather than the good managment of Harry to put him in. This is why I would love to see dos Santos given more of a chance because from what I have seen of him for Tottenham and Mexico he definately posesses ability and with the right coaching I believe could still live up to his potential. I would like to see him given some games next season because we will need depth in the squad due to the Champions League fixtures (if we qualify).

I would really like your opinions on this one guys, am I alone or do you as i suspect share my view on Gio? I know I will be down the bookies putting a £10 bet on each Mexico game for Gio to score the first goal, that’s how much confidence I have in the boy.

Well the week is coming to an end and like all Tottenham fans, I am loving this summer far more than any other. That’s because nearly every player we are linked with is a realistic target this season and it’s nice to finally see Spurs linked with some of the more decent Premiership players instead of the likes of Emile Heskey all the time.

Todays newspapers are reporting all sorts such as, Scott Parker to Tottenham in a deal involving O’hara going to the Hammers. Also, Gary Cahill may be in a deal where Alan Hutton would be included. These are good potential deals because not only will we be able to reduce the price by including a player swap, but it will help get rid of some of the players surplus to requirements at the lane. Looks like Villa and Stoke want Jenas (the sooner he goes, the better in my view),we also know that Villa are keen on Bentley and Keane so let’s see how that pans out.

Everton’s Steven Pienaar and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to Tottenham reports started surfacing once again on Saturday night and are in the Sunday papers. Now don’t get me wrong; I know it might just be paper speculation but my whole point here is that it’s nice to see us linked with some decent players and not rumours that we might re-sign Pascal Chimbonda again. My point is finishing 4th has already changed our club far more than we could ever have imagined.

Reports are also surfacing that Liverpool want Harry Redknapp as their next manager, well to me it’s laughable, I would put my house on Redknapp turning that offer down. Liverpool are on the way down and not up, so why Harry would even be interested in entertaining that idea is beyond belief. On a brighter note it looks like Ledley King will now be John Terrys partner in the heart of Englands World Cup defence and has even started training with the team. Personally I would drop Terry for Dawson but then again I’m biased.

I don’t think Tottenham can still sign the major big names in football but we are going in the right direction and for once I am more excited than ever to see who joins us this summer. I also have a sneaky feeling and although Harry dismisses it, that Joe Cole will be wearing a Tottenham shirt next season.

Double Swoop For Huntelaar and Pienaar + Keane to Villa?

Just read this in the Daily Mail….

Harry Redknapp has identified Holland striker Klaas Jan Huntelaar as a player to boost Tottenham’s scoring in the Champions League next season.

The Spurs manager will also keep an eye on Everton’s South Africa midfielder Steven Pienaar while a BBC World Cup pundit.

Target: Klaas Jan Huntelaar

It spells the start of a clear-out at White Hart Lane, with club captain Robbie Keane set to join Aston Villa and Jermaine Jenas offered as bait to lure Pienaar.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is ready to loosen the purse strings after the club finished fourth last season.

Pienaar, who has a year left on his contract, is keen to move to a Champions League club.AC Milan have made it clear Huntelaar, 26, could be surplus to requirements if they can sign Sevilla’s Luis Fabiano.

The much-travelled Huntelaar cost just under £15million from Real Madrid a year ago. But despite being considered one of Holland’s finest front men the Italians feel he had an indifferent first season with seven goals in 21 appearances.

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1284323/Tottenham-Huntelaar-Pienaar-Keane-set-join-Aston-Villa.html?ITO=1490#ixzz0q166kYie

Now I like both players and lets face it we might aswell cash in on Keane and look into the future. Both are great players, Pienaar is still young and Huntelaar still has many years left. Huntelaar needs a new home, he hasnt settled in at Ac Milan or at Real Madrid so I would welcome him to the lane with open arms. We never broke into the top 4 with Keane so I don’t feel we need him, let Villa have him. Keane lost the hearts of most Tottenham fans the day he left us for Liverpool and he has never managed to win back our affection.

I hope it isn’t just paper talk as I like the idea of this happening and feel it would only make us stronger for a season which involves a Champions League campaign.

Harry Sets Sights On Richards

Transfer News  Comments Off on Harry Sets Sights On Richards

MANCHESTER CITY will give Tottenham the go ahead to launch a £8m move for 21 year old full back Micah Richards. With City boss Roberto Mancini close to drafting in highly rated Jerome Boateng (Hamburg), Richards has been deemed surplus to requirements at Eastlands and will be allowed to leave at the right price.
With Harry Redknapp looking to boost his squad ahead of their first Champions League campaign, Richards would fit the White Hart Lane clubs policy of buying young ,talented home grown players and his flexibility would no doubt be of use given the injury problems suffered by the Spurs back line in recent seasons.
The player himself is thought to be keen on a move south to get his career back on track.

Richards would fit in well in our team because of his ability to play center back or right back. He is still young and can also get forward on the right hand flank for an extra dimension of attack.
