Joe Cole’s signed on at Anfield, Fabiano’s decided to stay with Sevilla, Taiwo’s a no-go and Cavani is apparently off to Italy. Almost everyone who has been linked with the club in recent weeks has either moved elsewhere or negotiated a new contract with their current employers, so with less than a month until the new campaign kicks off we have to start to wonder ……. WHERE IS EVERYBODY?

Joe Cole - Hodgson Snapped Up The England Man

We should be used to it by now, linked with every Tom, Dick and ‘Arry only to be left disappointed and ridiculed by others when the promised big name signings failed to materialise !!!

Not so long ago we were linked with the likes of Morientes, Rivaldo, Ronaldo (the fat one) and Diego only to fall just short (not through lack of trying I might add!) and be left to settle with players who were not quite of the same standard ….. Postiga, Rasiak, Acimovic the list goes on!

This time around however we all thought things would be different, top 4, Champions League football on the way, the big boys would surely be clammering to get through the White Hart Lane entrance this summer ……. but once again all is quiet on the star arrival front!

Cavani - Italy Bound?

What’s Wrong With Us?

Sandro’s in and that’s a great signing already in the bag but you have to wonder why we are failing to tempt the big players to the club when we are in the midst of our most exciting and productive period for as long as the memory can stretch?

Today’s tabloids are informing us that the Craig Bellamy deal is as good as signed and to be honest, at the money being mentioned(£3-5m) he would appear to be a good addition to the squad when you take into account the fact that Keano appears to be on his way out of the club. Bellamy, as good as he is though, fails to create the excitement around the fans that we were expecting to feel, going into our first season against Europe’s elite in the Champs. League.

Going Nowhere - Luis Fabiano

We’ve still been linked with some very good players, and realistic for a change as well! Gaby Agbonlahor, Micah Richards, Cole (before the move) but as yet, no concrete offers and no sign that anything’s about to change any time soon. I know our best work usually goes on  behind the scenes, only sprung on us when the deal is complete,  but with only a few weeks to go before we get underway again we must just hope that that work is underway as you read this !!

Anyone you’d like to see arrive soon? Any rumours you’ve heard that have escaped the press? Let us know in the comments box below ……..

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has set his sights on a cut price move for Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy after seeing Joe Cole apparently lured to Liverpool by the Anfield club’s £90,000 a week offer.

The Price Is Right - Redknapp Back In For Craig

Following countless weeks of speculation, former Chelsea star Joe Cole has finally put the longest running transfer saga of the summer to bed ….. with Liverpool his chosen destination.

According to reports Cole, 29 has accepted the bumper £90k a week offer put to him by new reds boss Roy Hodgson and will link up with England team mates Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Glen Johnson at Anfield for the start of the new season.

Following Cole’s reported decision, Harry Redknapp has quickly moved to secure the signature of City star Bellamy.

The much travelled, much maligned striker is set to become Redknapp’s second major squad addition of the summer after the capture of Brazilian midfielder Sandro from Internacional.

Transfer fees being reported are between £3m – £5m and if Spurs chief Daniel Levy could get that down towards the lower end of the scale then it would appear to represent good business for the club when you take into account the probable departure of Robbie Keane.

Meanwhile, comments attributed to Redknapp yesterday suggest that Croation stopper Stipe Pletikosa is on his way to the Lane as competition for Gomes and Cudicini. The 31 year old Spartak Moscow star was close to joining the club last year before a knee injury scuppered plans at that time. Redknapp now appears to be convinced that his injury is behind him and said :

“I might be taking another goalkeeper from Croatia … Pletikosa.

“There is every chance I might be getting him so that’s good.”

Disappointed not to see the Cole deal come off? Would you welcome Craig Bellamy to the Lane or do you think he’d have an unsettling effect on the squad? Who else would you like to see brought in before the window slams shut?

With the club yesterday confirming that manager Harry Redknapp has signed a new 3 year contract to stay at White Hart Lane … news that will no doubt quash the fears many supporters of the club will have had, we can now look to the future with greater optimism and purpose.

He Stays ! - 3 More Years For 'Arry.

With all the speculation regarding first Harry and Liverpool and then Harry and the England job, attention to the most important, most interesting and most exciting part of our summer (our transfer dealings!) was forced to take a back seat.

Now that we know he’s staying, we can look on and begin to speculate on who he will look to bring in to improve an already excellent squad. With Champions League football on the way this coming season we can expect to see links to a higher calibre of player than in previous transfer windows , the question is …… who will be Harry’s ‘Marquee’ signing?

Let’s take a look at some of the most linked, and most likely candidates …..

Craig Bellamy – According to some sources, this one is as good as a done deal. The much travelled (8 clubs and counting) Welshman has fallen out of favour with Roberto Mancini and would welcome a move away from Eastlands to secure first team football. Harry was linked with him before he left West Ham but at 31, and most likely to be on big wages at City, would Daniel Levy sanction a deal for a player who could possibly rock the White Hart Lane boat?

Sevilla Man Fabiano - Could He Be Lane Bound?

Luis Fabiano – The Brazilian World Cup star, currently plying his trade in La Liga at Sevilla, is a known favourite of Harry’s. After a good world cup for the South American side, Fabiano will no doubt have aquired the glances of many of Europe’s top managers, but if his recent admission (about only wanting a switch to Man Utd or Real Madrid) is anything to go by then this one is a non starter! Harry though remains optimistic and only today spoke of how he thinks that the Brazilian could be available to the club. We can only wait and see but if this one came off, it would certainly signal our intent to challenge for major honours this time around.

Joe Cole – What more can be said about the possibility of this deal coming off? I won’t bore you with it like everyone else is doing at the moment, but with Levy currently in talks with Cole’s people we can expect an end to this saga one way or another fairly soon …… or at least we hope we can !

Richards - The City Man Could Do A Job For Us.

Micah Richards – Gone a bit quiet this one, but he’s certainly a player that I think would be a good acquisition for the club. Strong, pacey and athletic, Richards would be a good player to call upon when up against teams with genuine pace in wide areas. While Corluka has done a great job for us out on the right, he is lacking in the speed department and sometimes prone to getting caught in advanced positions. With the long term futures of King and Woody under yet more scrutiny, Richards’ ability to move in at centre half is another reason why Harry should consider a move for the talented defender.

Luis Suarez – After Martin Jol’s recent comments that Tottenham weren’t a big enough club to tempt the Ajax man, the player himself reignited talks of a switch to N17 yesterday by saying :

Suarez - Interested ?

‘Tottenham hold appeal as well though, they are a team with great ambition and have done well to reach the Champions League, ‘I like team that have shown ambition through the money they spend.”

Suarez, is a player I’d definately be pleased to see at the Lane next season. Young, quick and a good finisher make the Uruguayan a natural target for Harry Redknapp. Whether his comments suggest Harry has already made an approach, we must wait and see!

Who else could improve our squad next season? Heard of any other possible deals in the pipeline? Let us know using the comments box below …..

Harry speaks with renewed confidence, but do we really need the former Chelsea man ?

At first it seemed too good to be true. Joe Cole, one of Harry’s former fledglings at West Ham, Premiership superstar and England regular – released by Chelsea and available on a free !

Harry showed an immediate interest, plastered all over the papers and a regular topic on Sky Sports News, the former Chelsea man was only destined for one place ……. White Hart Lane.

All of a sudden, interest cooled and Redknapp was all over the back pages telling everyone how he thought Joe had already agreed a deal with another club.(Thought to be Man Utd or Arsenal) The world cup began and our attentions turned elsewhere.

Then, out of the blue, the links resurface and only yesterday Harry was back talking to the press about his renewed hope over the deal and how he’d deploy Cole in his Spurs side and how he could become an integral part of our Champions League challenge!

The question I’d like to pose is this – Do we really need Joe Cole? …

Before you slate me in the comments box below, don’t get me wrong …… I think Joe Cole is a terrific player …… it’s just that he’s very similar in stature and ability to a few players already on our books and with the sums of money being bandied about, I wonder if we’d be better off spending the signing on fee (probably huge!) and wages in strengthening other areas of the team ?!?!?

When you consider the long term futures of players like Ledley and Woody and their chances of playing any kind of extended run in the side over the coming 12 months, you have to wonder if a Champions League quality centre half is more of a priority or more worthy of stretching the wage structure for? Kaboul, Bassong et all are all good partners for Daws  in the Premier league, but would you be confident seeing them named in the starting XI for a big CL match at the Nou Camp? …… Probably not !!!

Modric, Kranjcar (to an extent), Gio Dos Santos and Lennon have all shown in recent times that they can, and are comfortable playing off a front man or in the hole just behind, and Modric and Gio are both more than capable of doing a good job out on the left. Therefore, where would Joe Cole fit in? …… And at the expense of who?

My preference would be to see Gio (get his head down) deployed on the left and Modric to play in the hole, or even in a more central position. If I had Cole and Modric in the same squad I’d be picking Luka first all day long …… would Harry do the same, or would we see the Croatian schemer heading for the White Hart Lane exit?

I hope not!

I had a bet with a work collegue a few weeks ago, when reports were coming out Joe Cole had done a deal with Arsenal I said all along that he would join Spurs. My reasons were having watched Redknapp his whole managerial career I know how he loves a bargain and how well he knows Joe Cole, and when you put both of these together it stands to reason that Harry would put up a fight to sign Cole.

Today Redknapp admitted he is now in talks with Cole over a move to the lane

“You know he’s got lots of options, I think quite a few clubs want him,” said Redknapp.

“I had a great relationship with him as a kid; I signed him when he was 11 years of age.

“As I said before he lived for football, he was the best schoolboy footballer I have ever seen without a doubt.

“He has still got that enthusiasm I think, but whether there is a chance of getting him, I feel there is a chance.

“I don’t think it will be easy, but I think we have got as good a chance as anybody.”

I know Harry likes to play it down to the press, but i said weeks ago on here that I am so confident he will be a Spurs player I am prepared to get his name on the back of my shirt. Why would he want to work with Wenger and his foreign legion when he can work with Harry and play with his fellow England team mates who have probably spent the World Cup telling Cole to join us.

I would put a bet on it by this time next week Joe Cole is a Tottenham player.

Sitting here watching Sky Sports News and was thinking who have we actually signed? All I see is more transfer speculation for us Spurs fans. I mean it seems to me like anyother closed season,we are linked with big name players but as of yet no action. I remember a few years ago being linked with the likes of Kluivert,Rivaldo,Adriano,Ronaldo (the fat one) etc, so it’s not like we have never been linked to big name players but is this year any different, will we actually deliver on the big names?

Has qualifying for the Champions League really made much of a difference to the type of players we get linked with or are Tottenham getting used by other clubs to push up prices of their own players by claiming Spurs want them. One transfer I actually think will happen it’s just a matter of when is Joe Cole on a free. I’m sure Harry knows he can get cole to come to us and Cole recently said he will only come to a Champions League club, which rules out City and Liverpool. Apart from that has finishing 4th really made that much difference or is it just like any other closed season?

With just over a month to go before the start of the new campaign we keep getting linked with the same players week in week out but nothing ever seems to develop. We know we have Brazilian Sandro to join the club but that deal was done some months ago. Harry needs to trim the squad but as of yet nobody has actually left the club either, we know we have to shift out the dead wood and replace them with 3 or 4 players of quality if we are to push on.

I really hope i’m proved wrong in the next few weeks because if we are to push on it’s now or never. We have done the hard work by breaking into the top 4, we now have the means to attract bigger and better players. I expect Harry will bring in 2 or 3 players by August, however I hope he does not get sidetracked by England talk and focuses 100% on the future of Tottenham Hotspur.

So this closed season is it really going to be any different? are we going to be linked to big name playersand end up signing Emile Heskey or for once will we deliver on all this speculation. I would like just one nice suprise in the transfer window by signing someone we have yet to be linked with out of the blue, kind of like Modric, not much was said about him when we actually signed him. My tips are Joe Cole and Micah Richards but I just hope Harry knows he can now aim higher than he has his whole career and can tell the difference between the quality of players he needs for Tottenham opposed to the players he signed at West Ham and Portsmouth.

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes Manchester United may have already struck a deal for Joe Cole.

The 28-year-old will not have his Chelsea contract renewed this summer and a number of clubs have been chasing his signature.

Redknapp has confirmed that he would love to see the midfielder move to Spurs, while Arsenal and United are also thought to be trailing the England international.

But while Redknapp wants Cole at White Hart Lane, he thinks the Red Devils may have already won the race to sign him.

“I’ve got a feeling that it might have been done (for Cole to join United),” he said.

“It wouldn’t surprise me in the least. Joe’s not wanted to speak to anybody and his people have been saying ‘let’s get the World Cup out of the way first’.

“But we’d be interested for sure. I like Joe.”

Cole has been the subject of much debate in recent days as he has yet to make an appearance for England in this summer’s World Cup.

Taken from the Sky Sports interview, hope it’s not true, I like Cole and was hoping for a bargain free transfer. Really thought Harry wouldn’t let him slip through the net, but who can turn down Fergie? Still, while there’s Arry there’s hope.

http://www.MountainWatch.com”>Snow reports

A lot of reports are surfacing today about the possiblity of Joe Cole coming to the lane on a Bosman. Me personally I thought for a few weeks now that Cole will be a Tottenham Player next season, the main reason for my logic is the fact that Harry knows Cole well, afterall he was the man to give Cole his professional debut. When you also take into account the fact that Harry would never let this type of bargain pass him by and his ability to talk players into joining clubs, weighing up the evidence can you really see Joe Cole at another club next season?

It’s well know that Cole is a London Lad but could you really see him in an Arsenal shirt and would Wenger be able to talk him into a move to  the Gunners over Redknapp talking him into a move to join us?. I truely believe Cole would love to work with Harry again and I can see that after the world cup an announcement will be made that Cole is a Spurs player. We have 5 players in the England World Cup squad and surely they will all be on Coles back to come to the lane.

When asked about the possibility of Joe joining Tottenham, Harry was quoted as saying a deal is “not impossible”, which is a complete contrast of what he said only a few days ago when he said he thought Joe had already agreed to join another team. Harry is very shrude and knows exaclty what he is doing, and if there is anything I have learned in the past is that he loves a freebie. The question is Cole will demand a big signing on fee and big wagesso will we pay it? Well the wages he is on at Chelsea is around 100k a week, this is a figure we could pay because there is no transfer fee. The only trouble is would Cole getting 100k a week upset the other players? Does Cole deserve to earn more than Luka Modric and Ledley King? There is no doubt Cole will chip in with his share of goals and is a great player with experience of the Champions League. To me it would be the signing of the season if we could convince him to lower his wage demands to around 60k a week plus bonuses.

So let’s all enjoy the World Cup that starts this friday and watch a future Tottenham player do the business for England, cos mark my words, if Joe Cole isn’t in a Tottenham shirt on the opening day of the season I will be very suprised. Harry isn’t stupid he knows we need a squad of quality players to handle the Premiership and Champions League so when there is a “triffic” freebie on offer which doesn’t come along too often expect Harry to fight tooth and nail to get his man.
