Tonight is the start of the tie we have all been waiting for since that night in May at the City Of Manchester Stadium. Under 2 weeks ago the draw was made and Tottenham fans got supposidly the dream draw, the easiest draw on paper, but games aren’t played on paper. Make no mistake about it this Young Boys team are capable of pulling off a result, especially in the first leg with home advantage.

After watching the City game at the weekend I am very confident that if we can only play like that again that we will score more than 1 away goal tonight. Harry has opted to leave Ledley at home and let him rest so he can feature agaisnt Stoke on Saturday, we know this would probably be how things work for King, it will be one or the other on most occassions, either Champions League in midweek or Premiership at the weekend. Ledley might be able to manage both on rare occassions but these will be few and far between.

David Bentley, Jamie O’Hara and Jonathan Woodgate are all still out and I don’t think that Jenas will be fit either. I would expect to see a similar team to Saturday but with Bassong coming in for King and maybe a change in one or both of the forwards. I would also expect to see Gio get more time on the pitch tonight, he might even start if Harry feels confident in him. Being away from home Harry might also start with Palacios in the middle.

Tottenham will be playing on an artifical pitch tonight but will need to find their feet pretty quick, any team that has reached this stage are decent. BSC Young Boys knocked out Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the previous round so we shouldn’t take this too lightly.

Stream will be in the forum as usual so log in or sign up to watch and chat with other Spurs fans. So this is what it has all come down to, this is what we have spent the summer dreaming of. It’s do or die, lose this one and it basically undoes the hard work of last season and we become the butt of every other teams jokes.

Kick Off 19:45

There is a new section under the Tottenham Streams tab which downloads and highlights will be put for matches, you can download the Manchester City highlights there now if you are into making videos like me then that is the place for you to check out.

Alright can someone tell me what it is with Tottenham and opposition goalies in inspired form? Is it just misfortune on our behalf that we constantly find ourselves coming up against first,or even second choice keepers that then have the game of their lives? Or are we seriously lacking that clinical finisher, whether it be as a target man,or a runner from midfield? Either way that game today was most definitely two points dropped.

Defoe,Crouch,BAE and bale to name but a few,all had fantastic opportunities to seal this game, though it just was not meant to be,oh well,at least we can take heart ( no pun intended ) from our overall performance.

And on a more positive note, boy did we play some sharp pass and move today,Modric and Huddlestone combined well in midfield against the central three of  Toure,Barry and De Jong, whilst both Bale, and Lennon to some extent gave their opposition full backs a hard time.

This was a Tottenham team that has definitely reaped the benefits of stability, you could see that the Spurs players new where each other were going to be at any given time,a trait lacking in the Man City eleven, although I’m sure that will come for them as long as the City board give Mancini time with his squad.

All this however has given confidence enough to reassure me that we can overcome our excursion into the Champions League in midweek, after all what are the chances of another keeper having the game of his life?

With kick off approaching us for the curtain raiser of the 2010/11 Premiership campaign the nerves are truely kicking in. It is oh so vital to start the season with a win, looking at the league table in the early few weeks and being near the top brings massive confidence. It’s no coincidence that for the first time in a while we opened last season with a win and ended up having a great season. So if we can get a win that will make the weekend fly by, watching Match Of The Day will be enjoyable, seeing City already playing catchup on us will make our nerves a little calmer for now at least.

Nobody can forget the encounter back in May which clinched 4th place for Spurs and you can bet your life that the Mancs haven’t forgotten either and will be hoping to dish out some payback. Tottenham actually done the double over City last season with a 3-0 hiding at White Hart Lane but this time around city are almost £100 million richer in player quality but have they had time to gel? This one will be too close to call, usually the home advantage would be massive but an opening day match is like a cup tie and can go either way.

Spurs have won only 2 of our last 9 opening day games but if City ever had a bogey team it was us, we have won 11 of the last 12 agaisnt Manchester City and 6 in a row at the Lane.

It’s anyones guess who Harry will opt for in attack tomorrow, Defoe,Crouch, and Keane are all at his disposal. Bale looks to have shaken off a knock which kept him out of the Wales match and should start, I would expect to see Giovani Dos Santos feature in this match due to his decent World Cup and pre season but due to his long flight from his midweek Mexico international I think any plans to start the kid will be shelved for another week and he will feature on the bench. Pav has a hamstring injury and Woodgate won’t be back anytime soon but other than that we are good to go.

Possible teams according to Sky Sports but feel free to put yours below

Tottenham: Gomes, Corluka, Dawson, Bassong, Assou-Ekotto, Lennon, Palacios, Modric, Kranjcar, Keane, Defoe.

Man City: Given, Boateng, K Toure, Lescott, Kolarov, Johnson, Y Toure, De Jong, Silva, Tevez, Adebayor.

The bookies have us down to win this one but only just.

So here we are, we are back in business and it doesn’t get much bigger to start the season. Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City kick off at 12:45. Watch the match live in the >>forum<< , either login or register for access to the match. Don’t forget midweek the small matter of a Champions League tie is also upon us.

Also remember to submit your Premiership fantasy dream team >>here<<

First they wanted Harry and now they want Crouchy, Harry saw sense so hopefully Crouch will do the same. it’s great to be able to say this but why would Crouch want to go to another team when he could stay at a top 4 club. Reports all weekend have been coming out that Hodgson is desperate to sign Crouch but is he going to get more game time at Liverpool than he would at Tottenham? I would think not, so why on earth would he want to move.

Fingers crossed we can beat Young Boys and then we have Champions League football at the lane so the squad is going to be rotated I would imagine, Crouch will probably feature more for Spurs this season than he would for the Scousers. They have Torres and now they have Joe Cole who might play just behind, so where would they fit Crouch in?

Some people might not see it as a big deal if he leaves for Anfield, and I probably wouldn’t see him as irreplaceable however he adds a different dimension to the squad, now nobody likes seeing us play long ball Wimbledon style but sometimes needs must and you have to take the route one direct style and Crouchy is the ideal target man in them situations. It has worked for Chelsea for years with Drogba as their target man and you could argue it has worked for us due to the fact we have finished top 4 for the first time in the Premiership.

Peter Crouch has helped in turning the fortunes around of the club, would he want to see it through or would he be tempted to go back to Anfield, personally I can’t see him going, I can’t see any logic as to why he would want to go to a club who can’t offer him what we can in Champions League football. It’s a classic case of Liverpool thinking they are bigger than they are and can attract players from our club, I think even if Liverpool come in for Robbie Keane that suddenly they wouldn’t be his boyhood club anymore. Liverpool are not as good as they were and keep living off past reputation and I can’t see any of our players who know they will be in the first team next season would abandon us now in favour of a move to Liverpool.

So if there are any truth in these rumours I don’t even think Harry would let him go and I really can’t see Crouch sulking like Berbatov did just to get a move to Liverpool, no doubt they are a big club but you are only as good as your final league position and that was 3 places behind us. Crouchy will know he will be spending a lot of time on the bench next season but so will a lot of the squad, that is the price you pay if you want Champions League football, United,Chelsea and Arsenal will be doing it and so will we otherwise league form will suffer.

Could Robbie Keane actually have saved his Tottenham career, assuming that’s his wish.

After an initially slow first half of the season on his return from Liverpool,he looked pretty impressive during the start of the 09/10 campaign, unfortunately Keane then found himself being pushed out on to the left of midfield and as his confidence started to dip so did his game, until such a point in fact as he then began to find himself pushed further down the striking pecking order, something than many of us would never have thought possible. In fact his form dropped of so badly after the first four or five games last season that the only way he could be sure of first team football was to make the journey north of the border in the January transfer window,a move which not only shocked the fans but according to reports at the time a lot of the players also found this hard to cope with. But alas Keane ventured out in search of his old self and in so doing donned the green and white hoops of Glasgow Celtic, and after a few sluggish games to begin with he started to regain his fitness, and hence started finding the net again on a more regular basis.

However we all now that the standard of opposition in the Scottish Premier League is a lot less than that of it’s cousin South of the border, taking this then as a given how has Robbie’s game seemly improved to such an extent that he could now find himself a regular again in the Tottenham starting eleven? The answer to this must I believe come in two parts, the first I believe is that Robbie has rediscovered that fire which had been so badly extinguished under the tutelage of Rafa Benitez. That will to win at all costs no matter how much the body will ache the next morning, now I’m not one to knock a man that obviously knows more about football than I ever will,it just seems so obvious that our little Irishman went up to Liverpool a first rate player and for whatever reason,on his return to the Lane he was a broken man.Yes he played a big part in helping us avoid relegation, but it was obvious to all that his time on the red side of the Mersey had affected him badly

Now on to the second piece in the jigsaw that is Robbie, which I believe to be his form,as a footballer you are a vacant vessel without it,the loss of said form though can to some extent be covered if you still have that drive to make the runs into either goalscoring positions or the setting up of the same for those around you,but as I have previously written perhaps Robbie had lost this also, hence the absence of the aforesaid latter part could not be covered up.

Now however with the rebirth of  our captain form at his feet, belly full of the fires, have we at last got our Keano back,or at least as his pre-season performances show is he close at hand. Are you then a happy bunny or an indifferent fox that still wishes to see Keano depart the Lane once more?

Harry Redknapp has just been interviewed on TalkSport, where he commented on the Champions League draw, transfers and bringing back the European nights to White Hart Lane,

The transfer merry go round is seemingly attached to James Milner and his on off move to Man City.Harry said.I can see that deal going through sooner rather than latter, then perhaps Aston Villa will have some money to spend.

Take then from that what you will but it looks as though we could be selling some players to them,if,or rather when,Milner finally makes that move.So could that be the much talked about Robbie Keane departure, and perhaps even Jenas? Who knows, but it’s going to go down to the wire, again.

He also commented on John Bostocks future after he signed a deal extension today to take him through until 2013.John has definitely got a future at Tottenham said Harry. He has gone to Hull for a season long loan, but he has to try and get into their first eleven otherwise should he fail then he’s got no chance of making it into Tottenhams.

He then promised, when asked by presenter Danny Kelly to try his utmost to bring the glory nights back to Spurs.

That then is great news regarding John Bostock,I’m really pleased that the lad has found a club to try and work at his game, let’s hope it will benefit him as much as it has Townsend,Mason and Rose. It’s also nice to have a manager that keeps you informed as to what’s developing at the club, well as much as he can without hindering possible transfers anyway.

Your comments are as usual welcome. For healthy discussion please refrain from foul language and personal attack, thank you for your understanding.

Well there you go,finally the draw has been made and we have been given to play against Young Boys of Switzerland. The first leg is away from home on the 17th/18th August, with the following game to take place a week latter on the 24th/25th August. So I suppose this begs the question as to how we should approach our very first sortie into the Champions League? Will we play the 4,5,1 that Harry has been raving about since the end of last season? Perhaps ,especially in the first game as he will not wish to play too open and risk being knocked out before we’ve even started.

One thought however that springs to mind is,do we actually have a striker which could operate in the lone position? I know Harry has been trying a few out during pre- season, with both Keane and Pav playing that role but whether it actually benefits their game is a question that needs to be raised.

Another query doing the rounds recently is,Should we risk Ledley in the Champions League or do we save him for our push on the title? Seriously though, would it be fair on a player which along with so many others gave his all last season to take us too the heights of the aforesaid Champions League, only then to decide not to give him a go,after all he is our most talented defender and I can hear the derisory calls now if we fail to let him lose only to be knocked out after the two games.

The Spurs boss is understood to have offered around £8million for the striker who snubbed him to join Manchester City from West Ham 18 months ago.

The Price Is Right - Redknapp Back In For Craig

Aston Villa are also after Bellamy. But sources close to the club believe Spurs have outbid their rivals and can also offer Champions League football.

Redknapp wants Bellamy, 31, for his influence in the Tottenham dressing room – which he feels is too quiet – as much as his combative nature on the pitch.

The Spurs chief said: “We need a couple of experienced players – a few men in the team.

“Two or three would make a massive difference to us.

“Inter Milan won the Champions League with men, they weren’t kids. I think it’s going to be important.”

This is what the Sun is reporting today, again this one is resurfacing which makes me think that Harry really does want to add Bellamy to his squad, I really think he should try more around the £6 million mark as I am sure City would go lower. I fully expect Craig will be a Spurs player by the end of the month simply because this rumor simply won’t go away.
