SPURS 3-2 FIORENTINA : Pre Season Result …..

For those of you who didn’t manage to catch the game live, I’ve managed to find a few decent videos of todays goals from our 3-2 victory over Italian side Fiorentina in our final major pre-season match before next weekends big kick-off.

After going 1 down early on, Gio capitalised on a defensive error in the Italian back line before squaring to Roman Pavlyuchenko to tap home the first equaliser of the game.

Our opponents then took advantage of some sloppy defending on our part to go in at half time 2-1 up when Adem Ljajic volleyed home from 12 yards, but the second half belonged to Spurs with Robbie Keane finding the back of the net from a Tom Huddlestone through ball to notch up his first of the afternoon.

With 89 minutes on the clock and a draw the likely result, Keane ensured the victory with a well taken third, his second of the match. Substitute Jake Livermore finding the Irishman with a great through ball ….. the finish almost identical to his first.

1-0 Fiorentina

1-1 Pavlyuchenko

2-1 Fiorentina

2-2 Keane

3-2 Keane Winner !!!

On the 2nd January 2007 Spurs announced the signing of what they believed to be a star in the making ……. The ‘New Zidane’ no less !!!

Rangers Bound - Adel Off To QPR

After just 9 first team outings and no goals in competitive matches Adel Taarabt looks set to move back to Queens Park Rangers ….. this time on a permanent deal.

The Moroccan international ,21, who moved to the Lane from French club Lens in 2007 (initially on loan) struggled to break into the first team under both Martin Jol and Harry Redknapp and appears to be ready to make the move to gain regular first team football.

“The big mistake was to sign for Tottenham and not go to another club when I first came over” – Not words to get the Spurs faithful on side and chanting his name – Taarabt proceeded to spurt yet more ill advised comments when he told reporters only a couple of months ago – “I hope to be playing for one of the top four in Spain next season — Real Madrid ,Barcelona, Valencia or Sevilla. I have contact with good teams and I know that they want me. Now I just have to hope they can agree a deal with Tottenham.”

Well, unfortunately the big 4 in La Liga forgot to bid and Adel now looks set to put the finishing touches on a £1m move back to the club at which he spent last season on loan.

So, with another one off through the White Hart Lane exit door, are you glad or disappointed to see the back of Taarabt? The kid undoubtedly has ability, but failed to find one specific position in which to ply his talents. His debut in the match against West Ham showed a glimpse of what he could do and at the time we were all desperate to see more of him but in the end the few appearances that followed left us with that disappointed feeling and most will probably not be too bothered to see him leave.

Any comments as usual in the box below …..

Villa boss Martin O’Neill is set for yet more uncomfortable times as Spurs prepare winger bid …..

Lane Bound ? ..... Ashley Young

Following all the furore surrounding his handling of the proposed James Milner to Man City move last week, Villa boss Martin O’Neill is set for more problems during this transfer window as Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is supposedly plotting a move for star winger Ashley Young.

Many sources are currently claiming that White Hart Lane chiefs see Young as the perfect man to pair up with Gareth Bale on the Spurs left next season as the club head into their debut Champions League campaign.

No fees have been mentioned as yet, but with recent talk linking both Robbie Keane and Jermain Jenas with moves to Villa Park you would imagine Harry Redknapp would be looking to involve either one or even both players in any prospective deal.

Would you be pleased to see Ashley Young in a Spurs shirt come August? Is he the answer to our left sided conundrum? Who else do you feel Harry and Levy should be looking at before the new campaign gets underway?

As usual, all comments are welcome in the box below ……

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has set his sights on a cut price move for Manchester City’s Craig Bellamy after seeing Joe Cole apparently lured to Liverpool by the Anfield club’s £90,000 a week offer.

The Price Is Right - Redknapp Back In For Craig

Following countless weeks of speculation, former Chelsea star Joe Cole has finally put the longest running transfer saga of the summer to bed ….. with Liverpool his chosen destination.

According to reports Cole, 29 has accepted the bumper £90k a week offer put to him by new reds boss Roy Hodgson and will link up with England team mates Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher and Glen Johnson at Anfield for the start of the new season.

Following Cole’s reported decision, Harry Redknapp has quickly moved to secure the signature of City star Bellamy.

The much travelled, much maligned striker is set to become Redknapp’s second major squad addition of the summer after the capture of Brazilian midfielder Sandro from Internacional.

Transfer fees being reported are between £3m – £5m and if Spurs chief Daniel Levy could get that down towards the lower end of the scale then it would appear to represent good business for the club when you take into account the probable departure of Robbie Keane.

Meanwhile, comments attributed to Redknapp yesterday suggest that Croation stopper Stipe Pletikosa is on his way to the Lane as competition for Gomes and Cudicini. The 31 year old Spartak Moscow star was close to joining the club last year before a knee injury scuppered plans at that time. Redknapp now appears to be convinced that his injury is behind him and said :

“I might be taking another goalkeeper from Croatia … Pletikosa.

“There is every chance I might be getting him so that’s good.”

Disappointed not to see the Cole deal come off? Would you welcome Craig Bellamy to the Lane or do you think he’d have an unsettling effect on the squad? Who else would you like to see brought in before the window slams shut?

With the club yesterday confirming that manager Harry Redknapp has signed a new 3 year contract to stay at White Hart Lane … news that will no doubt quash the fears many supporters of the club will have had, we can now look to the future with greater optimism and purpose.

He Stays ! - 3 More Years For 'Arry.

With all the speculation regarding first Harry and Liverpool and then Harry and the England job, attention to the most important, most interesting and most exciting part of our summer (our transfer dealings!) was forced to take a back seat.

Now that we know he’s staying, we can look on and begin to speculate on who he will look to bring in to improve an already excellent squad. With Champions League football on the way this coming season we can expect to see links to a higher calibre of player than in previous transfer windows , the question is …… who will be Harry’s ‘Marquee’ signing?

Let’s take a look at some of the most linked, and most likely candidates …..

Craig Bellamy – According to some sources, this one is as good as a done deal. The much travelled (8 clubs and counting) Welshman has fallen out of favour with Roberto Mancini and would welcome a move away from Eastlands to secure first team football. Harry was linked with him before he left West Ham but at 31, and most likely to be on big wages at City, would Daniel Levy sanction a deal for a player who could possibly rock the White Hart Lane boat?

Sevilla Man Fabiano - Could He Be Lane Bound?

Luis Fabiano – The Brazilian World Cup star, currently plying his trade in La Liga at Sevilla, is a known favourite of Harry’s. After a good world cup for the South American side, Fabiano will no doubt have aquired the glances of many of Europe’s top managers, but if his recent admission (about only wanting a switch to Man Utd or Real Madrid) is anything to go by then this one is a non starter! Harry though remains optimistic and only today spoke of how he thinks that the Brazilian could be available to the club. We can only wait and see but if this one came off, it would certainly signal our intent to challenge for major honours this time around.

Joe Cole – What more can be said about the possibility of this deal coming off? I won’t bore you with it like everyone else is doing at the moment, but with Levy currently in talks with Cole’s people we can expect an end to this saga one way or another fairly soon …… or at least we hope we can !

Richards - The City Man Could Do A Job For Us.

Micah Richards – Gone a bit quiet this one, but he’s certainly a player that I think would be a good acquisition for the club. Strong, pacey and athletic, Richards would be a good player to call upon when up against teams with genuine pace in wide areas. While Corluka has done a great job for us out on the right, he is lacking in the speed department and sometimes prone to getting caught in advanced positions. With the long term futures of King and Woody under yet more scrutiny, Richards’ ability to move in at centre half is another reason why Harry should consider a move for the talented defender.

Luis Suarez – After Martin Jol’s recent comments that Tottenham weren’t a big enough club to tempt the Ajax man, the player himself reignited talks of a switch to N17 yesterday by saying :

Suarez - Interested ?

‘Tottenham hold appeal as well though, they are a team with great ambition and have done well to reach the Champions League, ‘I like team that have shown ambition through the money they spend.”

Suarez, is a player I’d definately be pleased to see at the Lane next season. Young, quick and a good finisher make the Uruguayan a natural target for Harry Redknapp. Whether his comments suggest Harry has already made an approach, we must wait and see!

Who else could improve our squad next season? Heard of any other possible deals in the pipeline? Let us know using the comments box below …..

Please Note : This is not true neither factual and is intended purely as a joke

In the summer of 2001 Sol Campbell went from club legend status to hate figure, when he took advantage of the Bosman ruling and walked away from White Hart Lane and done the unthinkable ……. he signed for Ar5ena1 !!!

Now, after 9 years of believing the lies about the reason for his departure, we here at Triffic Tottenham can exclusively reveal the TRUTH behind his decision …….

We suspected as much !!! - Campbell comes clean almost a decade down the line !

Well, there you have it ! For years you’ve sung the chants at the Lane, (you know the ones!) and now you’ve been proved right …..he does go in for a little brown love !

Obviously he found no volunteers in the White Hart Lane dressing room when he asked for a willing participant in such acts, so he had to move elsewhere to get his jollies off ……. with Highbury the being the nations hotspot for those types of shenanigans at that time !

After years of anger towards the player, I’m sure all Spurs fans upon hearing this news will accept and forgive Sol for his actions. None of that goes on at the lane, so that lot down the road was his only logical option.

I think I speak on behalf of all Spurs fans when I say ……. We forgive you Sol.

Redknapp shows an interest in Sporting front man …..

Spurs target ? ..... Lisbon's Djalo

The agent of Sporting Lisbon forward Yannick Djalo has revealed that Spurs and Newcastle Utd are battling it out for the Portuguese forward’s signature this summer.

24-year-old Djalo, who can also operate as a winger, is highly rated by the Portuguese club.

But financial worries at the club mean they may now be forced to sell their most valuable asset.

The striker’s agent Lionel Silva has revealed that there has been concrete interest from England, with Harry Redknapp an admirer of the  portuguese youngster.

“The two clubs are interested” agent Silva said.

“But we have not reached an understanding with regard to price. We have to wait a little longer.

“He (Djalo) fancies the idea of going to England, because playing in the English Premier League is a dream for most players.

“But while there is not total agreement on a deal, Yannick has to report to work (at Sporting) every day.”

Personally, I’m not sure how much truth there is in this one. Sounds a bit like the agent is trying to spark a bidding war and drive his client’s price up. However he does look a decent player and you would imagine he could do a job for us during the course of the season. Whether he’s got the potential to become a fixture in the side and compete at Champions League level is up to Harry to decide!

Uruguay world cup star reopens door back to the Premiership but could it be career over for Spurs’ England defender?

Change of heart? Forlan refuses to rule out move back to England.

Supposed Redknapp target Diego Forlan has refused to rule out a move away from Atletico Madrid this summer.

The Uruguayan striker is chasing the Golden Boot at this summer’s World Cup in South Africa having already scored four goals in his country’s route to Saturday’s third place play off against the Germans.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has been open when speaking of his admiration of Forlan, but the former Man Utd man has previously ruled out a return to the Premier League.

The striker struggled during his spellat Old Trafford, however, he has since flourished with more than 100 goals in Spain for Villareal and Atletico to draw the attention of a number of top clubs around Europe.

And Forlan admits that he would consider a summer move, telling Sky Sports News: “They have to be a good offer and we have to see.

“I am very happy in Madrid and the way the city and the team are always with me.

“(But) you never know. If it is a good offer we have to see if the team wants me to leave or not and then we have to sit and talk.”

End of the Road? Woody suffers yet more injury woe!

Meanwhile one player for whom the future does not look quite so bright is our injury jinxed England centre half Jonathon Woodgate.

Woodgate is running out of time to save his Spurs career, according to boss Harry Redknapp.

Woodgate played the disappointing total of only three games last season and failed to manage a single appearence from November onwards.

Redknapp has now warned the 30 year-old he will have ‘big problems’ if a persistent groin injury is not cured soon.

“We’ve really got to monitor him and see where he’s at because it’s been a year now for Jonathan and he’s really got to be coming back and playing now” said Redknapp.

“If he doesn’t, if he’s not going to be back pretty soon, he’s got big problems, so it is an area we’re looking at. Sebastien Bassong did well for us last year so we’ll see how we go.”

Woody will always be remembered by Spurs fans for his winner against Chelsea in the League Cup final, but sentiment can only take you so far and if he fails to recover soon we won’t be too disappointed to see him removed from the payroll. For a player once considered to be Englands’s best centre half, it could be a very sad end to what could have been such a great career!

Following his renewed optimism on the possibility of Joe Cole joining us, Redknapp sets his sights on another former West Ham man ….

Redknapp wants to reunite Carrick with old team mate Cole at the Lane.

After his U-turn over the chances of us seeing Joe Cole in a Tottenham shirt yesterday, Harry Redknapp has renewed his interest in the possibility of reuniting Cole with former West Ham teammate Michael Carrick.

Former Spurs midfielder Carrick, 28,has seen his opportunities at Old Trafford become fewer and farther between recently and was mooted to be part of a swap deal being readied by Sir Alex Ferguson earlier in the season for Croatian international Luka Modric.

That possibility was quickly shot down by Spurs who moved to secure Modric on a new and improved 6 year contract, running until the end of the 2016 season.

Now however, it is believed that the United boss will consider letting England international Carrick leave the club if a suitable offer is received.

With Harry a known admirer of the geordie midfield man, it is now believed that he is ready to test the water with United, with a £12m bid for his former charge.

Should the bid be accepted, you would imagine that Carrick would seriously consider a switch back to N17, especially now that we have Champions League football to come at the Lane next season. The thought of seeing Cole and Carrick sharing the centre of the park on the same side once again would certainly be interesting and the United man’s range of passing would certainly compliment the abilities of Luka Modric . One other thing to consider however, is that with Sandro coming in aswell if Harry were to get the cheque book out for Carrick, would that mean the end for Wilson Palacios? With the Honduran already having been linked with a move to Spain with Barca, could he be the man to make way for another midfield arrival?

Harry speaks with renewed confidence, but do we really need the former Chelsea man ?

At first it seemed too good to be true. Joe Cole, one of Harry’s former fledglings at West Ham, Premiership superstar and England regular – released by Chelsea and available on a free !

Harry showed an immediate interest, plastered all over the papers and a regular topic on Sky Sports News, the former Chelsea man was only destined for one place ……. White Hart Lane.

All of a sudden, interest cooled and Redknapp was all over the back pages telling everyone how he thought Joe had already agreed a deal with another club.(Thought to be Man Utd or Arsenal) The world cup began and our attentions turned elsewhere.

Then, out of the blue, the links resurface and only yesterday Harry was back talking to the press about his renewed hope over the deal and how he’d deploy Cole in his Spurs side and how he could become an integral part of our Champions League challenge!

The question I’d like to pose is this – Do we really need Joe Cole? …

Before you slate me in the comments box below, don’t get me wrong …… I think Joe Cole is a terrific player …… it’s just that he’s very similar in stature and ability to a few players already on our books and with the sums of money being bandied about, I wonder if we’d be better off spending the signing on fee (probably huge!) and wages in strengthening other areas of the team ?!?!?

When you consider the long term futures of players like Ledley and Woody and their chances of playing any kind of extended run in the side over the coming 12 months, you have to wonder if a Champions League quality centre half is more of a priority or more worthy of stretching the wage structure for? Kaboul, Bassong et all are all good partners for Daws  in the Premier league, but would you be confident seeing them named in the starting XI for a big CL match at the Nou Camp? …… Probably not !!!

Modric, Kranjcar (to an extent), Gio Dos Santos and Lennon have all shown in recent times that they can, and are comfortable playing off a front man or in the hole just behind, and Modric and Gio are both more than capable of doing a good job out on the left. Therefore, where would Joe Cole fit in? …… And at the expense of who?

My preference would be to see Gio (get his head down) deployed on the left and Modric to play in the hole, or even in a more central position. If I had Cole and Modric in the same squad I’d be picking Luka first all day long …… would Harry do the same, or would we see the Croatian schemer heading for the White Hart Lane exit?

I hope not!

2 Serie ‘A’ Goal Machines Linked – Keano Celtic Loan Return Mooted.

Despite reports to the contrary, our chances of signing 2 of Serie ‘A’s finest forward players appear to have improved .

After Klaas-Jan Huntelaar went public, claiming that he was happy in the Italian capital and that he wanted to remain and fight for his place, his club AC Milan appear to be ready to shelve the Dutch hitman in favour of bringing in a ‘great striker.’

According to his agent Fabio Parisi :

“AC Milan is trying to sell him.”

“The player will soon find out that at Milan he will have no chance to play. Also because Milan will take a great striker.”

“Huntelaar needs to realise leaving Milan now will be better for him in the long run.”

Huntelaar ,26, has endured a frustrating time in Italy, similar to the spell he had at Real Madrid, however his goals – minutes played ratio has been very good and with his value to be set at around £10-12m he would seem to be the perfect choice for Harry Redknapp’s side. With reports in Italy suggesting that White Hart Lane will be his destination, I for one would be delighted to see this one come off!

Another player recently linked with the club is Edinson Cavani.

After the Palermo president publicly announced last week that a double deal had been agreed with Spurs involving defender Simon Kjaer, he was forced to quickly backtrack after the lillywhites came out and denied any contact with the Italian club!

Whether the interest in Cavani is real or not remains to be seen but should Redknapp be looking to the Uruguayan for extra firepower next season his cause will have been helped by the reluctance of Palermo to sell any of their better players to another Italian club.

Cavani’s dream of becoming ‘the Wayne Rooney of Inter Milan’ now appears to be off the cards leaving Spurs as the highest profile club currently linked with the players signature,  however I’d personally prefer to see the club looking elsewhere … Huntelaar in particular! The player himself has said that he would not be overly keen on a move to the premiership and heading into our most important season in recent memory I’d like to see a squad of players assembled that want to be at the club and that are prepared to fight for the badge !!!

Meanwhile one player seemingly heading the opposite way through the revolving door out of White Hart Lane is Republic of Ireland international striker Robbie Keane.

Following a successful stint on loan at Parkhead last season, netting 16 goals in 19 games for the the SPL runners up, Celtic appear to be exploring the possibility of a similar arrangement this coming campaign. Celtic assistant manager Johan Mjallby has confirmed the Hoops are chasing the signature of the Spurs man, but due to the financial situation at the Scottish club a permanent deal was not an option :

“Has Neil been speaking to Robbie? Definitely,” Mjallby told the Daily Record. “I don’t know Tottenham’s thinking when it comes to Robbie.

“He is out of our reach when it comes to buying him. But a loan would be perfect for us. To buy someone at Robbie’s level would be impossible. We don’t have that kind of money.

“The only way we could get that kind of player would be to ride our luck and maybe find someone on loan and make sure it’s a quality player who is going to give us goals.

“But we have the lure of European football at Celtic. From my own memories it’s very important as a player. It’s a great opportunity to play against the best and develop.”

Well, Robbie’s been a great player for us since he signed at the start of the 2002/3 season but after the Liverpool move and subsequent hit-and-miss form since his return, you can’t help but feel that the time is right for both Keano and the club to move on. If he does go , we’ll wish him well!

I had a bet with a work collegue a few weeks ago, when reports were coming out Joe Cole had done a deal with Arsenal I said all along that he would join Spurs. My reasons were having watched Redknapp his whole managerial career I know how he loves a bargain and how well he knows Joe Cole, and when you put both of these together it stands to reason that Harry would put up a fight to sign Cole.

Today Redknapp admitted he is now in talks with Cole over a move to the lane

“You know he’s got lots of options, I think quite a few clubs want him,” said Redknapp.

“I had a great relationship with him as a kid; I signed him when he was 11 years of age.

“As I said before he lived for football, he was the best schoolboy footballer I have ever seen without a doubt.

“He has still got that enthusiasm I think, but whether there is a chance of getting him, I feel there is a chance.

“I don’t think it will be easy, but I think we have got as good a chance as anybody.”

I know Harry likes to play it down to the press, but i said weeks ago on here that I am so confident he will be a Spurs player I am prepared to get his name on the back of my shirt. Why would he want to work with Wenger and his foreign legion when he can work with Harry and play with his fellow England team mates who have probably spent the World Cup telling Cole to join us.

I would put a bet on it by this time next week Joe Cole is a Tottenham player.
