Everybody put in a hell of a shift today against Cardiff, not an easy place to go but at times we looked tremendous.

Their keeper played a blinder, Soldado actually had a decent game, his moment was good and he has the ability to turn a half-chance into something more than that.

Lamela came on and looks bright, Eriksen still looks as though he is going to be very special. Everyone had a role to play and did so well enough at a tough ground. Let’s not forget we still have Lennon, Rose, Chadli and Capoue to come back yet, depth in the squad means that with injuries we can still put out a very strong side.

Now moving on to who I love to watch and who won’t get much of a mention because he only played 5 mins. Lewis Holtby, his vision and ability to pick out a pass is superb, the other night when he put that ball through to Defoe made me just love him even more. Holtby said we wouldn’t see the best of him until this season and we are, just a shame it’s only for the odd few mins in the Prem. Holtby came on in the 87th min and then put a ball through to Paulinho for our most clear-cut chance of the match. Holtby then played a hand in the winning goal, he spread the ball out wide to Lamela who then expertly crossed for Paulinho to finish.

I just hope Holtby doesn’t spend too much time on the bench, he is good enough to be rotated and get his fair share of matches in the league, his vision and passing ability is at a high level. I would hate to see him left on the bench to the point where he wants to leave because trust me, our loss will be someone else’s massive gain. I am guessing Holtby will start against Villa in the cup and then no matter how well he plays he will be back on the bench against Chelsea.

Final point. What was up with Defoe, I heard he was just left out of the squad in favour of Kane, could it be because he defied AVB by standing up for Adebayor in the week?

Good win today, good performance, still solid at the back.

  1. Oh to be shot of Adebeyor!

  2. leave defoe out at our peril! He will leave and come back to haunt us!!

  3. Well said. Holtby made the most of five minutes. Three sublime forward passes that led to opportunities and goal.

  5. Perhaps we are shipping both him and Ade out and upgrading Kane plus the purported signing the Marica guy?

  6. Think Defoe was rested for the Villa match. That make the most sense. Thought Dawson was a big influence today, he’s all guts and passion in a game where we had to stand up when they attacked. Soldado was brilliant and apart from his lack of goals, his movement and passing skill is brilliant. I think we’ll be hard to beat this season.

  7. everyone raving about holtby, soldado, daws, eriksen today but for me the unsung hero was dembele……thought he was awsome!

  8. Soldado needs a league goal in open play. Eriksen has settled very quickly and Lamela is becoming more involved. Siggy very unlucky not to score again today. How many times has he hit the woodwork for Spurs? He is a real goal threat. Absolute heroics from the Cardiff keeper. Just looked at the stats for today and Spurs had 29 attempts at goal 12 on target.

Only negatives are the left side, Naughton is not a left back and should not play there. It does him no favours. He wants to use his right foot all the time and he was targeted again today and exposed. Siggy is not left footed either so the whole of our left side was unbalanced. Why is Zeki Fryers not getting a chance or Vertonghen moving across?

The only other moan is the pointless exercise of Tottenham taking a corner. I honestly thought that with so many six footers in the squad we would get a few more headed, set piece goals. It doesn’t look like happening any time soon. Eriksen delivered them all into the box and the Cardiff defenders were first to all twelve THFC corners.

I hope we can turn Villa over on Tuesday as the League Cup would be a good trophy for Spurs to win this season. Chelsea next week will be the test.

  9. Still think Defoe will go in January. Great win today not an easy place to get a result. Hope Lamela starts Tuesday let Townsend learn how to pass the ball. best start since 61-62 credit To AVB. COYS!!!

  10. Glad to see someone else noticed the HUGE impact Holtby made when he came on today. For all our good play throughout the course of the match, it was ONLY when Lewis entered the field of play that Spurs began to ‘get in behind the Cardiff defence with any consistency!

With 10 mins remaining on the clock, Holtby wasted no time in getting involved, popping up all over the park and reintroducing a higher-tempo into Spurs’ play/passing.

I counted three KEY passes the German made which had the Cardiff back-line turning and running back towards their own goal.

The first was a beautifully weighted reverse pass into the feet of Paulinho inside the oppositions 18 yard box. A CLEAR-CUT opportunity which the impressive Marshall did well to block.

The second was a neatly threaded through ball to Erik Lamela inside the box, again. Unfortunately the Argentine was unable to manufacture anything other than a corner for the team on that occasion.

The third was the pass again to Lamela (and again inside the box) which resulted in the goal.

Excellent cameo from the German which provided the spark Spurs were desperately in need of going into the last 10/15 mins of the match.
The MOST INCISIVE PASSER in the Spurs team, bar none, I hope Holtby’s recent good form is rewarded with a start in the EPL, sooner rather than later.

Great team display again, today. To control (whole) games in the EPL (especially away from home) is NEVER an easy task, but this season MORE than any other, we seem to be able to do so with far greater consistency. In the end it was a NEAR perfect away display, with the only thing missing, being, a few more goals. Oh, and we kept another clean-sheet (thanks largely to a TOP-DRAWER save from Hugo Lloris). Things are looking good. Very good. Long may it continue…

  11. Holtby came in last season on a wave of optimism and many saw him as a bright young star of our future. The simmers transfer dealings have dampened that somewhat but they shouldn’t. He’s got more to his game than Sembele in my eyes. Don’t get me wrong, I like Dembele, he glides past players with the ball but he doesn’t do much with it after that. Holtby has so much energy and vision, he deserves a run in the team. If he was played in the Dembele role in games against the likes of Sunderland, Norwich etc, I feel we’d see better end product. Saying that, it’s hard to knock anything the manager is doing right now.

  12. what it will be a test for chelski, tottenham 2-1 chelski COYS till i die

  13. In the past 2 games Siggy has really come out of his shell. The same with Soldado. That backheel in the Norwich game and the half chances today, I’m convinced, he is a slipery customer.

Lucky Lewis, I think that was his knick name at his previous club. He is a gem.

Erik Lamela, when this guy comes out of his shell. Hot fire for our adversaries.

Andros is getting better with every game, Sandro, Capoue, Lennon and the young Romanian yet to make an impact.

Our foes must be wetting their trousers.
Let the good times roll, and let’s not forget where we came from. The last time I felt like this was when Jerry took control of Ozzy’s team.

  14. “The last time I felt like this was when Jerry took control of Ozzy’s team” So i guess your not feeling to positive then Baz ? can’t remember Gerry’s team being that good. personally the last time Spurs were this strong was the team of the early eighties under Burkinshaw, with the King of WHL Hoddle & co.
Hope Willian plays the scum next week and Sandro kicks him all over the park for 90 minutes, whilst Spurs cruise to another victory !!!!!!!!!!!
    COYS!!!!

  15. Great team performance todsy, yes Hugo was luck but we didn’t look like losing and I am well impressed with the clean sheets. My only moan is Townsend he has to stop shooting all the time he s like the new Dempsey shoots from range loads but we just no that no goal is coming. When Lamela moved to the right the clear cut chances started to come and eventually the win. Think Townsend should play on the left discouraging him from shooting 80% of the time. But great start to season COYS

  16. I love holtby

  17. Agree. He definitely had an impact
