The fee for the creative midfielder being in the region of 7.5 million euros. Spurs have acted quickly to steal Elm from under the noses of Manchester United, with Redknapp bolstering an already formidable midfield with the addition of a top quality fully fledged international.

Elm has played 21 games for Sweden, previously appearing 23 times for the Under-21 side. He has improved greatly during the current campaign, after struggling with injury and illness in the previous two seasons.

Former Sweden coach Lars Lagerback claimed that Elm was the most talented player produced by Sweden since Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Tottenham fans will be hoping that his work-rate exceeds that of Ibrahimovic, particularly with the Swede facing the difficult prospect of forcing his way into an already crowded Spurs midfield.

For me though I would much rather of put that 7.5 million towards a Carlos Tevez fee or wages. As we do exceed talent both young and mature in midfield. Are you a little bemused? would you rather have the immidiate impact in an area of the pitch we need it?

Yet According to Expressen, Spurs have already agreed the deal, but Elm will not make the move to White Hart Lane until the end of the current season. Praised for his passing and playmaking abilities, the 23-year-old Swede has been closely monitored by Manchester United’s scouting network for some time, but United were not ready to make a move until 2012.

  1. Where are these reports??,

  2. Statement from his advisor says that this is complete and utter BS! Elm is not going to deside on his future before the end of this summers cup! Hopefully redknapp gonna spend on tevez or another quality striker instead of pav!

  3. A top striker is key, but we really need a quality centre back this January.I’m talking King/ Woodgate standards to partner Kaboul and for summer a young top goalkeeper. Any suggestions??

    • I’m a big fan of Michel Vorm and think he’s gone largely under the radar of many with the equally surprising emergence of Krul at the Barcodes. Personally I prefer Vorm, who makes more saves per game and has had a lot more work to do than Krul in the early stages of the season. Krull has had a settled back 4 in front of him for every one of the 1st 12 or so games. Now that they have some injuries to Taylor and Coloccini we’ll see if he can keep up his level of performance. Regardless, they’re both very cometent keepers, but I would choose Vorm based on Aug-Dec showings.

  4. We aren’t signing Tevez for Christ’s sake. We can’t afford to keep Adebayor because of his wages so how exactly would we pay Tevez even more? Also if we did piss on our wage structure for the hideous little prima dona what would it do? How much would Modric want to sign a new deal in the summer? How much would Bale want when he sees Tevez on nearly 200k? Stop embarrassing yourselves.

  5. i think we do need some back up for adebayor or if he’s that good to play next to him. we need someone quite big and not in the vdv or defoe mold. basically a better version of pav! But more importantly i believe we need more competition for right wing. lennon needs to be pushed and i’d love shaqiri but feel we should of got him last summer after the u-21 tournament. the boy marin in good but caan he play on the right…prob not. and i would like to give caulker the chance to chance to get in the team rather than spend money on cahill or similar.

    • I fancy Hoilett personally as a young striker who can also play RW. Very fast and looks a good prospect – someone to put Lennon under a bit of pressure perhaps. Wouldn’t be cheap but Marin would be a fortune and he plays on the left anyway. A better option would be to go all ou for a proper target man to deputise for and eventually replace Adebayor at the end of the season, letting Peinaar and Kranjcar deputise for Lennon for the time being. A target man is not an easy player to identify though, especially when taking into account our wage structure. Possibly Llorente if available at a reasonable price. I’m a big fan of Damiao, although I don’t consider him that type of player. He’s most similar in style to Defoe at Spurs although a fair bit taller. Not really the type to bring others into play…… Something Ade does well with his hold-up play. Not an easy call. All emotions aside, I’d say the best player out there who MIGHT become available and who could best suit our needs is Berbatov! His footwork and aerial ability had been sorely missed until Adebayor came in imo. Best case scenario, Ade could get a big pay-off from Citeh to compensate a bit for taking a wage cut. Still might not be doable for us financially, but I’d like us to try as he’s fitted into iur side very well imo. Never thought I’d be saying this a few months back, but I do hope we can keep hold of him. The side looks a lot better with him in it.

  6. Elm is a very talented player and would be a very welcome addition to Tottenham, He is young and a build for the near future is the foremost idea behind this story, cover for Modders, for who else do we have if Modders picks up a long term injury?

Regarding the Tevez story, never in a million pound years is He coming to WHL, well, not until we have reached the CL or are comfortably housed in our brand spanking new home. Bringing in Tevez or contracting Ade is just not commercially viable as it stands now, and will only create a financial black whole for us. Leandro is a more likely candidate for a move to the Lane.

  7. ps. Can you imagine the domino affect it would have if Spurs brought in Tevez, VDV, Modders, King, Sandro, Parker et al all baying for a wage increase. Uhhh shudder at the thought of so much cash being drained.

  8. Elm looks like a very promising young player to me, we always need cover and we know the Spurs management love a player that is versatile, plus he is young and very much what Levy looks to buy.
This surely would allow us to re-think on the current midfield situation, We have an unhappy Krancjar who will look to move in Jan/Summer, a VERY average at best Steven Pienaar, a clearly unhappy Gio, these are players that will move on (Gutted for Kranckar as he is top drawer). Look at our side when you take little Modders out of the equation, we struggle to get that quick meaningful passing tempo, yes we still move the ball around but theres no ‘slide rule’ passer to slip someone in. This year has proved ideal to Blood the younger players and Harry has cleary been searching for the ‘Modric style’ alternative in the middle, Tom Carroll has been tried and did a decent enough job but needs a few loan spells and experience, We have Parker, Sandro, Livermore for the DM role but in the Creative CM role we have Luka and Tom Hudd, thats it, more options are needed.

The Tevez subject I wont even go into really!! No new stadium = No wage structure break, simple!

Speaking of great midfielders – Fantastic to see Sandro get a full game last night, this boys our future, he needs his fair share of games, we must do all we can to keep him happy.

  9. Tevez??
Great palyer, piss-poor temperment and there’s something basically wrong aboout us fielding Citeh’s reserve forward line.

    No thanks

    • Good point, but for the sake of argument I gotta say that personally I think Tevez/Adebayor looks more tasty than Aguero/Dzeko.
